Der Kuipergürtel ist eine ringförmige, relativ flache Region, die sich im Sonnensystem außerhalb der Neptunbahn in einer Entfernung von ungefähr 30 bis 50 Astronomischen Einheiten (AE) nahe der Ekliptik erstreckt und schätzungsweise mehr als 70.000 Objekte mit mehr als 100 km Durchmesser sowie viele kleinere Objekte enthält.

Raum

Ein Meteorit ist ein relativ kleiner Festkörper kosmischen Ursprungs, der die Erdatmosphäre durchquert und den Erdboden erreicht hat. Er besteht gewöhnlich überwiegend aus Silikatmineralen oder einer Eisen-Nickel-Legierung, wovon ein gewisser Teil beim Eintritt in die Erdatmosphäre verglüht ist.

Physical Disaster

Die bisher entdeckten transneptunischen Objekte sind in ihrer Zusammensetzung kometenähnlich. Viele bekannte Kometen stammen nach Bahn-Messungen seit den 1970er Jahren eher aus dem Kuipergürtel als, wie lange Zeit vermutet, aus der Oortschen Wolke.
