Jon Hester returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects with a thundering four-track techno EP.

Previously appearing on Rekids with his two-part ‘Converge’ album released across 2020 and 2021 after multiple EPs on Rekids Special Projects, Jon Hester now readies his next release, ‘Action EP’. A no-holds-barred presentation of the Berlin-based DJ/producer’s latest upfront techno, the release shows Hester in fine form as he returns to the Rekids universe.

Leading the release, ‘Scrape’ sees densely reverberated hits spar with pumping kicks and rattling percussion, leading into the trippy metallic synths, textured claps, and sparse pads of ‘Blinker’. ‘Sirens’ ignites the dance floor with a cacophony of sirens and drum machines taking the lead, before ‘Arise’ rounds out the release with wonky low-end, FX-laden hits and vocal gasps.

Radio Slave announces Part 2 of Rekids Special Projects ‘Actualize’ compilation.

Rekids Special Projects, the no-nonsense techno-focussed sub-label of Radio Slave, aka Matt Edwards’ Rekids, launched in 2017 and has since released music from the likes of Mark Broom, Luke Hess, Jon Hester, and more. For the 50th release, Edwards readies ‘Actualize’, bringing acts from the wider Rekids universe into one slick collection, with the second part arriving this February alongside a DJ mix of the tracks. 

“I had no idea how big this project would become when I started planning the ‘Actualize’ compilation back in October. With 28 tracks, I decided to split the comp into 2 parts, and it also gave me and some of the other artists featured here a chance to finish their tracks. I’m super happy with ‘Actualize’, and it’s a great honour to have guest artists such as Slam and Ian Pooley’s Silvershower project on RSPX.” - Radio Slave

Gregori Klosman’s Guru imprint continues its rich vein of form as Miami’s DJ Sub Zero is next to take flight. Bringing the party vibe with plenty of swagger and bucket loads of personality, “Girl (Like That)” is a deep, groovy workout that ignites every dancefloor it spills its guts over. A bona fide club bomb, this one has got some serious legs. Dancing legs.

Driven by an underground, highly addictive bassline and wild, crunching synths, the track has a tough backbone that is complemented by the ghetto-funk vocals and tightly worked groove. Despite its power and energy, “Girl (Like That)” keeps a lid on things, exploring a funky, deeper, more visceral attitude instead of spilling over into frenzy. Because of that, taking it to the edge and teetering there, “Girl (Like That)” has an innate edginess that makes it such a compelling track. This is definitely one that deserves to be cranked up to 11.

In 1998, some 12 years after Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent started materializing his musical vision, he established the Kombination Research label. Initially it was an outlet for Cisco’s innovative techno and electro cuts under his The Advent moniker. That changed in 2006: the twentieth release on the label was a collaboration with Davide Squillace called ‘Bike On The Rocks / Changing Guards’. From that moment on, the label would include practically everything: solo releases by The Advent himself, collaborations and solo work by other artists, the only consistent factor being that the label was always on the forefront of international techno. Though the imprint went digital in 2005,
everything in the period from 1998-2005 was never released digitally... Until now. The label is nearing its 100th release and to celebrate, KR100 will consist of a collection of all the tracks that weren’t released digitally. And to top it off, the release will also feature some previously unreleased work from The Advent, plus a segment recorded from a live set he did at the Motor club in Detroit, back in 1998. Steered by an almost annoying high pitched pad and later some haunting strings. The real science starts when Endlec works his magic. His unique drum programming and distorted yet sophisticated approach of the elements creates the best remix. X3, the fast groover with a slick bassline, a cheeky synth and jacking drums is perhaps a safe approach. But we guarantee this will work on every dancefloor. His style and attention to detail have earned him warm up sets for many of his Techno heroes, with Dave Clarke, UVB and Abstract Division being recent highlights. As well as being a Mutate resident, he also plays regular headline slots in Dublin’s biggest venues & has played several gigs abroad taking a trip to Berlin’s Arena club last year featuring on the same line up as Adam X & the Dystopian Record labels Jon Hester.

Coomney makes his debut on Orbis Records with his four-track "In Plane Sight" EP, and “Riflekt“ kicks of the B-side of this release. Imagine an empty black space creeping up to you from behind. Dark. Detroit pioneer Robert Hood joins Radio Slave’s Rekids label with a fourteen track album entitled ‘Mirror Man’ this November.

A founding member of Underground Resistance alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, Robert Hood is one of techno’s originators and his decorated career spans three decades. The American artist and his M-Plant label laid down the blueprint for minimal techno and 1994’s ‘Minimal Nation’ on Axis was a definitive album that further cemented Hood’s reputation as one of the greats to emerge from the Motor City.

Since then, Hood has gone on to release on many of electronic music’s best labels like Tresor, Peacefrog, Music Man Records, Dekmantel and more. After a busy few years making music and touring as Floorplan alongside his daughter Lyric, Hood now joins Rekids with an album showcasing his innate knack for crafting paired back but intricate rhythms that deliver punch and soul.

Opening with the cinematic ‘Through A Looking Glass Darkly’, the album quickly flows into precise, powerful four four. There’s mesmerising cuts such as ‘Fear Not’ with its throbbing bass and spectral vocals, the twisted and off-key ‘Run Bobby, Run’, not to mention muscular tracks designed to light up dancefloors like the machine driven ‘Ignite A War’ or the robust and rumbling ‘The Cure’.
Hood also breaks things up with downtempo and mind bending interludes, including the tranquil yet spooky ‘Black Mirror’ and the beatless and murky ‘Freeze’. Each of these are aural feasts that demonstrate his vast musical pallet.

From start to finish ‘Mirror Man’ is an education in finesse from one of techno’s most heroic artists, landing on one of electronic music’s most important labels.
