If you want a 303 sound accept no substitutes, only the real thing will do.

But if you're a cheapskate like me then a Behringer TD3 will do just fine- also featured is my Behringer RD8 (both pictured), they sound great and the process of making this track was extremely arduous from the perspective of:

- actually performing on the instrument (filters, resonance, drum patterns etc) and then recording clips (vs recording MIDI and using automation to adjust things)
- chopping the samples to remove the delay and have them loop cleanly

Surprisingly full sounding track (I think? It's like 1:30am here) given there are only 2 instruments (well 3, the TD3 is in there twice, once for a low bass and once for a high bass / lead).

Just Jamming With The TD3 And RD8- Think The TD3 Is A Bit Flat

Alright team here we are again another track that I'm gonna call hard trance- maybe it is, maybe it isn't I don't really know.

Definitely I'm edging ever nearer to making tracks that don't make me cringe so I guess that's progress!

Nothing groundbreaking- I bought Sylenth and some good hard trance presets which helped a lot, also I watched some of Dean Zone's videos, particularly on how he gets a reverse bass sound using Serum, super helpful.

I think the mixdown is alright? I put the effort into getting each track to sit where I wanted it to individually (as I was building the tracks) and then frankly didn't put that much effort in afterwards, I suppose we'll see how it sounds tomorrow when it's not so late and I test on other headphones and speakers.

Time For Another Stab At Some Hard Trance

We got an airfryer a while back and so while making lunch for my kid (meatballs) I thought I'd test meatballs done in a pan against meatballs done in the airfryer.

My kid didn't seem to care either way (two-ish at the time) but he did make a point to keep saying "airfryer" and "meatball" over and over again.

I sampled it using Koala Sampler (Android app, recommend) and jokingly slapped it over one of my other tracks, cut a 30s portion and sent it to my wife.

She thought it was hilarious and sent it to everyone and now it's just become this big meme in my life so I felt the right thing to do was to take those samples and make an actual track.

So here it is- nothing groundbreaking, I didn't really learn anything but it's the first track I've made in weeks and I'm pleased with it.

Air Fryer Until You Meatball

Honestly I don't even like this track, but I forced myself to make a track and I'm forcing myself to upload it, that's the deal.

Pleased with the levels though? Cheated a bit, just used colour limiter on everything and cranked it up and I think mostly as a byproduct of using built-in instruments with soft natures any clipping isn't obvious.

C'mon Just Sit Down And Make Some Fkn Music

This one is a bit rushed and slapped together, but it came together pretty quickly given I was really just messing around.

Sounds alright I think?

EDIT: I've since zhooshed it up a bit, not huge, just a bit of variety I think

Let's Do Some Simple Rhythmic Stuff

Nothing real ground breaking here- found a synth called Surge that I apparently bought a while ago and forgot about.

Tinkering with the glue compressor a bit, can't ever seem to get the drums and the leads not to argue with each other frankly I have NFI what I'm doing.

Also it sounds like it's wearing a skirt, wtf? I think it's that one synth when the pitch gets real high. Just super frilly.

EDIT: Dropped a bunch of the high pitch stuff, ditched the synth layers and just kept my two different synths but a bit more juxtaposed. I dunno I just don't think I like this track as much as I thought I did.

Time To Make Some Trance Again

Alright team here's the next one- I learned two new things:

- Multiband compression on drums helps to solve the issue of mismatched levels (e.g. when you cut the kick the hihats come in too loud)
- An automated LFO on a filter is great fun

Only other point to note is I used my TD3 again- super fun device, a little annoying to have to basically do a "okay this is for real" full recording run of the track so I can play the thing like an instrument but maybe that's part of the magic and I just need to adjust my perspective.

Spent Ages Playing With Reverse Bass

I really feel anything about this track beyond being happy that i finally made some music after like a year.

It Has Been Too Long

A kinda chord melody came to me outta nowhere while I was occupied with one of the handful of activities that all humans share in common but don't talk about much for some reason.

I dunno exactly if the melody I heard in my head ended up being represented truthfully in this track but who cares about that, a melody made me make a track and here we are.
