Injustice Watch reporting fellow Abbey Blachman and Audience Engagement Manager Charles Preston interview Eisha Love. Love is one of nine transwomen plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit that contends that Illinois and Wisconsin are preventing them from legally adopting their chosen names.

Love, a Chicago trans rights activist, was charged and convicted of aggravated battery in a public place after she was approached by a group of men at a gas station in March 2012.  She maintains she acted in self-defense from anti-trans harassment.

Illinois law prohibits convicted felons from legal name changes within 10 years of the end of their sentence. In this interview, Love details why she desires a name change and how her convicted felon status creates obstacles in her life.
