During his lifetime, Wesley Willis suffered immensely from mental illness. He was also, quite arguably (and tragically) exploited for the novelty of his work.

But he also pioneered 'Outsider Art'. The idea that anyone can create something of artistic merit and value regardless of training, education or technical ability is something that resonates with us quite loudly. Happy Birthday Wesley Willis. Rock on.
