Ben Rau revives his INKAL label after a two-year hiatus, with a brace of new tracks on the ‘French Plan’ single.  Conceived as a label solely for his own productions and running parallel to his META imprint, (home to house aficionados Ray Mono, Darius Syrossian, The Checkup and many more), Rau cues up two irresistible house tracks for a summer that promises to be like no other.

‘French Plan’ certainly doffs its cap to the filtered ‘French touch’ sound that cemented itself into the house music fabric over the last couple of decades, and Rau keeps this basic technique sounding thoroughly modern and effective.  Looping piano and tight guitar licks keep rolling over a crisp rhythm, female vox bringing the ‘call to arms’ that seals this uplifting cut perfectly.

Rau teases some classic deep house tropes on accompanying track ‘Holding On’, as a lively bassline and some acidic tones gambol over an industrious four to the floor beat, sweeping strings and a rousing vocal maintaining the good time energies stamped all over this one.

A welcome return for the INKAL label and for Ben Rau’s resolute sounds.

Birmingham duo RUZE have hurtled out of the starting blocks with a slew of quality productions and infectious grooves for labels such as PIV, Elrow, Abode, Etiquette and Rawsome, and their second release of 2022 lands on Ben Rau’s irrepressible META imprint.

UK DJ & producer George Smeddles teams up with Behic Fellowes for a brace of slammin’ and minimal tracks for Ben Rau’s META label.  

Bursting onto the scene in 2018 with the single ‘Shake Your Body’, George Smeddles has since climbed the ranks of the house scene at an exponential rate via releases for prominent labels such as Defected, Ultra, KOOKOO and Resonance Records, and also recently launching his new label South. 

Behic Fellowes's musical journey continues to evolve, releasing many tracks for labels such as Resonance, Subtle Records, Dog Records, and CTM Recordings.  

Lead track ‘Watch Ya Scent’ floats a monologue vocal over a punchy and rolling rhythm track punctuated with jazzy chords to maximum effect, whilst ‘Barry Can’t Drink’ keeps  up the energy levels as ear candy lead lines and a pliable bassline is intertwined with swinging drums.

UK producer Tommy Phillips drops a weighty trio of energising house cuts for Ben Rau’s META label.  The ‘Foolish Stuff’ EP marks another key release for the young producer whose music has been championed by the likes of Jamie Jones, Sidney Charles and Max Dean, amongst others.

Tommy’s recent ‘Smokin’ EP on Hector Couto's Roush label dominated the Beatport charts on release, helping the rising DJ score shows in Buenos Aires, Medellin and Santiago as part of a South American tour.

Ben Rau Presents INKAL Episode 033: DARKHORSE & Grouse

Ben Rau serves up the third release on his own label Inkal in October featuring two new original tracks by the rising star.
Berlin born Ben Rau is building on the huge success of the first two Inkal releases with two original tracks of his glitched out groove laden signature house sound. Rau has been steadily building his own brand throughout 2017 on his label Inkal, with each release on multiple represses the label is fast becoming synonymous with the type of house music that works equally for the underground vinyl heads and on the big festival stages.
The A-side Ad Astra is a rolling peak time number that marries a ravey lead stab with his trademark swinging hats and glitched out filter modulations over a thumping groove. 
The drop recalls 90’s drum and bass influences and soothing pads take the track into deeper territory. The drums are loose and jostle for attention as the ducking and diving lead synth bring real movement up top. One for the more tasteful sets out there.
Up next is Do Your Thing built around a rolling percussive tech-house groove and rumbling sub bass line, Ben brings in 303 licks and a female vox that urges you to “do your thing “ throughout the track. This roller makes a fine contrast to the swinging grooves of the A-side, dense atmosphere and deep chords compliment the other elements to form an infectious head nodding journey throughout the tracks 8 minute duration.
Once again Rau shows what an essential house producer he has become.

Ben Rau - Do Your Thing INKAL003

Ben Rau has had a great start to 2018, successfully launching his new label META , and recently returning from his latest tour of Australia.
It is obvious Ben soaked up the sun drenched culture and musical inspirations down under, as his latest INKAL release "Systéme Solaire" showcases Ben's diversity in the studio, and a more melodic side to Ben's sound that perfectly balances musicality while maintaining underground credibility, amounting to what is arguably Ben's strongest work yet. 
With multiple represses on each INKAL release so far, the momentum is building for Ben and INKAL004 will only serve to enhance his ever-burgeoning reputation as a purveyor of dancefloor-ready weapons.
The EP kicks off with the title-track A-side "Systémes Solaire", a track which displays all the trademark influences Ben Rau has become synonymous for , as expert drum programming glitchy percussion and a rolling funk bassline combine to provide the groove.

"Systéme Solaire" has hooky elements in abundance, as a combination of chord work and constantly evolving synths team up to create a memorable, peak-time bomb. The B-side, "Expand", continues in the same vein, as a short, bubbling bass stab drives the track forward and modulates to provide an acid vibe, joined again by luscious piano chords and licks and the Expand' vocal, which switches up from a whispering atmospheric to a heavily effected, pitched tone that keeps interest throughout. All the while accentuated by fractured groovy percussion, piano licks and open hats that shine over the whole track.

Fresh from announcing the full digitalisation of his second label, Meta, Ben Rau returns to his Inkal imprint with OutThere,  aslicktwo-trackerthatshowcasestheGermantalentathisbest.

The EP begins with title track  Out There , a swelling house cut that merges rolling percussion with funky disco licks, before a heavily delayed vocal calls out to the dancefloor in the breakdown. Driving congas and shuffling hi-hats create a funky peak time track that shows off Ben's big room sensitivities. On the B-side comes  What is Love , a long-awaited and enigmatic house cut that rounds off the release in style. Deep pads swell and ebb, while Ben's signature minimal percussion bleeps and glitches with funk and swing.
A name synonymous with the underground facets of electronic music,  Ben Rau ’s career in such a sphere has developed year on year since his earliest inception into Berlin’s raving circuit. After developing an internal love for the dancefloor, such a passion naturally progressed into a full-time profession where, in 2016, Ben launched his first label, Inkal, as a home for his self-made releases. This was followed by the formation of Meta in 2018, to showcase music from other produces in the scene. Alongside being head of two labels, Ben’s passion for producing has seen his tracks land on the likes of Fuse and Tamango Records, before his incredible remix of Roy Ayers’ legendary  Holiday  was released on BBE in September 2018.

Project89 has been impressing with his productions for PIV, Mea Culpa Records and Audio Rehab, and most recently, collaborated with The Checkup, for the META released ‘40 Ounce’ EP.  The Dutch DJ & producer returns to Ben Rau’s consistent label with a full solo release, on the ‘Bitter Sweet’ EP.

With the right balance of soulful vibes against a driving and tight rhythm, ‘Bitter Sweet’ couples a sweet vocal hook with an industrious bassline that unfurls with acidic tones, as luscious pads envelope this feel good and exceptionally groovy house cut.

‘Gotta Have You’ is cut from the same cloth, featuring another captivating bass riff, and dubby, metallic chords.  Vocal refrains float over this highly charged club track, and another alluring production from Project89 that makes for a fine brace of tracks on this release.
