Live excerpts from concerts with the Speaker Performing Kiosk: an autarchic peforming device designed and performed by Nicolás Varchausky. All sounds were generated live creating feedback between speakers and microphones manipulated by the performer and processed by a computer in real time. No pre-recorded sounds or sensors of any kind were used. No additional editing or overdubs were made.

Todos los sonidos fueron generados en vivo creando acoples entre parlantes y micrófonos manipulados por el performer, y procesados en tiempo real por una computadora. No se han utilizado sonidos pre-grabados ni sensores de ningún tipo. No se han realizado ediciones ni montajes adicionales.

Nothing aiming is a splinter is the debut EP of Center no Distractor. The project is an explosion of movement, physicality and gritty, thumping beats, for taiko and live electronics.
A truly contemporary collaboration, Center no Distractor re-contextualize the taiko (a traditional Japanese drum) in a digital environment while retaining the essence of its aesthetic, athletic and musical qualities. This meld creates a visceral, industrial, post-primal/post-digital experience – an immersive and intense environment full of evolving soundscapes and fine detail, throbbing percussion, gut-moving bass, and turbulent oceans of sound.
The project features fully Do-It-Yourself instruments: Stephanie plays a self-constructed nagado taiko, made from an oak wine barrel which she built over a period of 1.5 years. Stelios performs with a modular instrument he created in the SuperCollider programming language, with custom-made processes and generators tuned for responsive, hands-on playing.
Center no Distractor performances are simultaneously a concert, an exploration of sound and body, a visual spectacle; they are dance for the ears, the body, the eyes and the mind. Nothing aiming is a splinter was recorded live, aiming to capture as much of this raw energy as possible.

Nothing aiming is a splinter es el EP debut de Center no Distractor. Este dúo de taiko y electrónica en vivo es una combinación explosiva de movimiento, fisicalidad, desborde y ritmos pulsantes. Center no Distractor es un auténtico proyecto de colaboración contemporánea que re-contextualiza el taiko (un tambor tradicional japonés) en un entorno digital, reteniendo la esencia de sus cualidades estéticas, atléticas y musicales. Esta conjunción crea una experiencia visceral, industrial, post primal y post digital – un ambiente intenso y envolvente lleno de paisajes sonoros cambiantes, pequeños detalles, percusión muy marcada, graves que te mueven las tripas y océanos turbulentos de sonido. El proyecto utiliza instrumentos completamente artesanales: Stephanie toca un nagado taiko hecho con un barril de roble que ella misma construyó en el lapso de un año y medio. Stelios desarrolló un instrumento modular en el lenguaje de programación SuperCollider, con procesos y generadores creados especialmente para el dúo y altamente sensibles a las imprevistas manipulaciones en vivo.
Las actuaciones de Center no Distractor son a la vez un concierto, una exploración del sonido y el cuerpo, un espectáculo visual; son una danza para los oídos, el cuerpo, los ojos y la mente. This work provides an accompanying for a lull or relaxation; moreover offering a beautiful object for passive contemplation. The recording on this CD has been performed using an algorithm that proclaims the computer as a live performer (beyond the possibilities of this work of being performed by musicians). In the computer, the designed software manipulates different kinds on sonic materials consisting of: acoustic instruments (played by the composer); sounds generated by his mouth and vocal tract (also by the same composer); sounds created by synthesis technics; and other recordings of sounds generated by water. This interpretation algorithm involves a list of directions and actions subjected by
random choices according to a model proposed for the piece's first section score. Furthermore, be noted that although here it is presented in CD Audio, this work is developed in other formats such as audiovisual installation. In all these cases, the combination of sounds and visual components that make up the work offers a relaxed tour of abstract scapes.

La obra propone una compañía para un momento de calma o de relajación y a la vez ofrece un atractivo objeto de pasiva contemplación. La grabación que se ofrece en el disco ha sido realizada mediante un algoritmo que proclama a la computadora como un intérprete vivo (más allá de las posibilidades de la obra de ser interpretadas por músicos). La materia prima sonora que manipula el software consta de grabaciones de instrumentos acústicos (ejecutados por el compositor); sonidos generados con la boca y tracto vocal (también por el mismo compositor); sonidos generados por síntesis y otros generados con agua. Ese algoritmo de interpretación involucra un listado de pautas y acciones mediadas por elecciones aleatorias, según el modelo que propone la partitura de su primer sección. Cabe señalar que si bien aquí se la presenta en formato CD Audio, la misma obra también presenta versiones en otros formatos, como ser instalación audiovisual. En todos esos casos, la suma de los componentes sonoros y las visuales que integran la obra, ofrecen un distendido recorrido por paisajes abstractos.

What is the crunching of iron like, that sound that will always return, again and again, to the memories of the survivors…?

This EP contains the first piece from the modul+ project, a series of three abstract electronic music compositions entitled m+ m, m+ p y m+ x with multiple formats: music album, sound installation and multi-channel concert. This series studies the complex and evolving characteristics of sound generated and processed by digital and analog modular systems.
The raw material for these compositions was produced with Buchla 200 and Serge Modular synthesizers during an artistic stay at the EMS studios in Stockholm, Sweden, in May 2016.

Este EP contiene la primera de las piezas del proyecto modul+, una serie de tres composiciones de música electrónica abstracta tituladas m+ m, m+ p y m+ x con formatos diversos: álbum musical, instalación sonora y concierto multicanal. Esta serie investiga las características complejas y evolutivas del sonido generado y procesado con sistemas modulares analógicos y digitales.
El material básico para estas composiciones fue producido con los sintetizadores Buchla 200 y Serge Modular en una residencia artística, realizada en los estudios EMS en Estocolmo, Suecia, en mayo de 2016.
