“Life could be freeing, free from the ticking”- INK PIX: FR-END

Music artist INK PIX is on a path to alternate away from the world of saturated perfection we absorb on a daily basis. With his distinctive voice and sugary guitars, INK treads the fine line between rough and refined to give (what he thinks is) the goldilocks of indie- alternative music. 

INK PIX as a music project was thought up by Jack Coldrick back in 2019. After 5 years of different attempts to share his music ranging from TikTok challenges to documentary making, INK (Jack) has finally worked out the sound he’s been looking for with his debut single ‘FR-END’ that will be released February the 2nd of 2024. This will be followed up with full band live showcases, videos and more releases to make 2024 the year of the PIX. 

After finishing his degree in Commercial Music and performing with many bands, Jack had begun work on a solo project inspired mainly by acts such as The 1975, MGMT, Post Malone. Unfortunately, his insecurities got the better of him as with every song he’d produce and every social media post he posted he never felt that he was truly making the quality of music he wanted people to hear. As the years passed and world events changed, he focused on his work at QM studios as part of their outreach program and became a music tutor. All the time his creativity would move in waves even crowdfunding for a documentary based around showcasing inspirational stories of people working in the music industry with various life challenges. But with every peak he was met with the same feeling of inadequacy in his mind that would cause the fall of progress. After a 6-month hiatus at the end of 2022, Jack assessed himself and what he really wanted out of his music. His decision was he wanted to sound like the alternative bands from the 90s as they hold the key to his current music passions. 2023 saw Jack step out into the real world away from his bedroom, away from TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. He busked on the streets of Brighton, played local open mics with best friend and housemate Robert Adams. He learnt hours’ worth of covers songs, performing as a 90s cover band with Adams, guitarist Luke Amore, drummer Ollie Mahoney. He studied the music he was teaching to his students questioning what makes a good song a good song. 

As 2024 begins, Jack (INK) believes he is ready to start again with releasing the music of INK PIX into the world. This time with the support of many more people and a band to bring the music to life. ‘FR-END’ is the first of his new set of songs. The lyrics are about the stresses of time as we all face deadlines, ageing, social expectations in our lives. This is particularly relevant to INK as he pressures himself with his aspirations mixed with full time work and delayed life goals. If time was a person they would be ‘no friend of mind’. INK plans to share  more songs co-produced with Robert Adams at QM Studios and to play as many gigs as possible with the INK PIX band in the months to come.
