Almost 20 years ago Jürgen De Blonde debuted on KRAAK with the nowadays unfindable and almost visionary album köhn 1. It was the starting point for a vital and wondrous exploration that lead him over paths of glitch, idm, shoe gaze, hypnagogic pop, improvised music, straight forward synth music, field recordings and kraut. 

In the middle of this ungraspable adventure through contemporary electronic music, Köhn stands as a genuine artist that stayed true to the curious spirit of the DIY knob twiddling and boggling boy he once was. 

KRAAK is proud to present his 7th album on KRAAK — Kreis Plön, which documents and envisions 20 years of exploring. It’s an album that is about a fusion of the past and the future, of separation and reconfiguration, of mourning and rejoicing, of noise and peace. Kreis Plön is about geolocation. It’s about probable fiction and looking for bits of different puzzles that fit together. An exercise in linear and perpendicular coherence devoid of any objective logic. 

In the middle of the album an artist is envisioning his place in the Now, questioning how or when he got there, as he links memories to imaginary places, and real places to imaginary histories. Kreis Plön stands as such a masterpiece that bluntly envisions the future of electronic music.

Recording from event: Doing Sonic Cyberfeminisms: strategies of sonic resistance
Friday 2nd December 2016, 5-7pm, Goldsmiths University of London

In recent years, the relationship between sound, gender and technology has gained increasing attention. There have been a number of practitioner networks, informational resources, theoretical interventions, archives and educational initiatives established in the hope of tackling the gendered exclusions from and disparities within the technocentric fields of electronic music, audio production and sound arts. Many of these projects can be understood to share some of the concerns and ideals of cyberfeminism. Emerging in the early 1990s, cyberfeminism sought to explore the potentials and possibilities of technology, computing and Cyberspace for feminist praxis. However, to talk of cyberfeminism or indeed a cyberfeminist ethos in the singular is something of a misnomer: we consider it more appropriate to speak of plural cyberfeminisms, with various agendas, methods, perspectives and priorities.

This panel discussion follows on from a month-long online reading group which focused on the issue of “decolonizing sonic cyberfeminisms,” raising questions about the Eurocentric conceptualisations of technology, sound and gender implicit in much recent activism around these themes. It precedes a larger event planned for 4-5th May 2017 at the University of Lincoln which will continue to explore Sonic Cyberfeminisms. In addressing the issue of “Doing Sonic Cyberfeminisms,” the panel will explore what is at stake in the “now” of electronic music, audio production and sound arts, and asks what possible strategies of sonic resistance can be practiced

We release Phil Strucks album NNO on February 23.

Phil is a experimental recording artist, who also works as a photographer, documenting the contemporary, experimental electronic music scene and life around it. His music is based on sampling from odd sound sources, random data streams and the usage of microphones and various synthesizer. Phil ennobles the trivial, honors the silence and creates an experimental collection of raw textural ambiance. It could’ve been a matter of trompe-l’oeil, a mere juxtaposition of audio signs to mimic functionality, but there’s a much more vibrant and fluid quality to his mind-expanding pieces. He is living in Hamburg, Germany.

Originally composed for belly dancer in Tokyo, using my "Al-Noor" processing techniques. There's a lot going on under the skin of the music. I'm thinking about reviving and revising it for an upcoming tour of the UK and Europe.

'Dumb Answer to Miracles' is the first official publication of writings by Graham Lambkin. Previously 20 copies of a signed private edition entitled 'Tomb of Speed' were circulated amongst friends, collegues and mail order customers. This collection gathers all the 'Tomb of Speed' writings, a handful of Lambkin's lyrics he wrote for the band Shadow Ring and many unpublished works.
