For the seventh volume of lazed, a mix series thought as a playground for listening music, we're happy to share violet U.'s debut mix. The Naarm/Melbourne-based DJ crafted a 2-hour collage of sounds that weave between electro-acoustic ambience, brooding drones, sparse breaks and left-field dub - a perfect way to showcase his varying sound under this new moniker. 

The songs contained within were collected over the past 2 years, like journal entries from the seasons passed. Inspired by the question of what it means to listen, the mix was recorded months ago as Country moved into what Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples describe as Waring season. Intrinsic to this mix, the transient songs, stories and cries of the changing landscape find solace within.

"Calls of birdsong pull tides from the moon while morning dew dances to the rhythm of life. I see wind just as I hear the cold and my hands touch the earth while my heart feels its words. Each step louder than the last, I learn to listen to silence.

What does it mean to listen..? to sound? to others? to the environment? to oneself?"

It’s a special time of year in the Mouthfull radio calendar, as this show marks both the stations birthday, and resident host @bella-johansson 's 4-year broadcast anniversary. 
The first some times broadcast was in August 2020; and was somewhat irregular; roughly every quarter, giving inspiration to the name some times; though this has evolved and she’s locked in to a regular monthly slot, so despite being in another hemisphere, says she’s been looking forward to putting her thoughts into sharing two hours of music. 

This broadcast is the first in a series of shows whilst on the road; Bel is also beginning to explore the addition of field recordings; dipping in and out of slinky moments of slowness and respite, picking up at points - leaning into the usual downtempo, trip hop, ambient, and interesting leftfield wonky stuff; soundtracking some of the energetic highs and lows of her travels over the past month.
