100 CENTRE ST COURT, May 2 – In the Trump trial before Keith Davidson retook the witness stand, Justice Merchan asked to hear about contempt.

The prosecutor focused on Trump's praise of David Pecker as a "nice guy," calling it carrot and stick. 

 Justice Merchan said he was most concerned about comments about the jury being 95% Democrats and presumptively unfair. Trump's lawyer Todd Blanche said that wasn't about any particular juror. A decision will come.  

 When Trump's lawyer Emil Bove -- pronounced "Beau-vee" all now agree -- got to cross examine Davidson, the sparks flew.

He asked if Davidson hadn't been investigated for possible extortion in Florida, and about his role in leaking the Lindsay Lohan rehab tape, and Hulk Hogan sex tape.  

  Davidson took to saying, I don't recall. He tried to push back and say if Bove was, as he said, not trying to play lawyer game, he shouldn't use terms like extract, as in extract money from Charlie Sheen.

  By lunch Bove said he had an hour left.

On Burundi, ICP Asks If Ban Raised New Envoy to Nkurunziza, Of DPA Africa 1 (and, "At UN, PGA Kutesa Presses For Kafeero to Get DPA Post, Amid Burundi Failure")

UNITED NATIONS, August 6 -- As in Burundi the crackdown on those opposing or even questioning the third term for Pierre Nkurunziza continues,  the UN has yet to name a replacement for its last envoy Bathily, rejected by Pierre Nkurunziza.

 On August 6 at the UN noon briefing, Inner City Press asked if Ban Ki-moon had raised to Nkurunziza the prospect of a new UN envoy or person to lead up the UN's work; spokesman Dujarric would not answer this.

  For the UN Burundi is handled by the African I Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs; Inner City Press asked Dujarric about its scoop, that the outgoing president of the UN General Assembly Sam Kutesa, still the foreign minister of Uganda, has asked Ban's chef de cabinet Susana Malcorra to put his chief of staff, Arthur Kafeero, atop UN Africa 1. Dujarric would not even describe the status of recruitment.

At UN, PGA Kutesa Presses For Kafeero to Get DPA Post, Amid Burundi Failure

UNITED NATIONS, August 5 ...   Sources initially told Inner City Press that Kutesa was lobbying Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's chief of staff Susana Malcorra to get Kafero the job.  Now, other sources say that Malcorra has put pressure on DPA chief Jeffrey Feltman to, in fact, employ Kafeero.

  Kafeero is a perfectly nice guy, but this is not the way things are supposed to work in the UN. Nor is having a relative working in the PGA's office, but that's another story for another time. Inner City Press has been closely covering Burundi, including as Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni was named as mediator for the term limits dispute there. This has, in an understatement, not been going well.

  So why at this time in particular would the UN be considering placing the nominee of Sam Kutesa, still operating as the foreign minister of Uganda, in this high UN DPA post on Africa? Watch this site.

   More than one source noted to Inner City Press that Malcorra is said to be angling to succeed Ban, if the post slips from the grasp of the Eastern European group.  Would this move help or harm those chances?

Malcorra is also in the midst of the still unresolved scandal of the cover up of alleged child rapes in the Central African Republic by the French Sangaris peacekeepers, on which Department of Peacekeeping Operations chief Herve Ladsous, even less qualified than Kafero, is said in UN Dispute Tribunal rulings to have pressured to get the whistleblower fired.

 It is in this climate of retaliation at the UN that Inner City Press publishes this story -- unlike the insider UN Correspondents Association, part of the problem at the UN and to which Ban's spokesperson's office limited information about Ban's Washington questionless photo-op this week, the new Free UN Coalition for Access aims for transparency.

  Inner City Press and FUNCA previously asked for disclosure of which of PGA Kutesa's staffers were being paid by the UN, and which seconded by member states. The list has yet to be provided, while some say a relative is paid by Uganda - so disclosure might have helped.

  The incoming PGA, Inner City Press is exclusively told, is mulling as spokesperson either a national of his own Denmark, or from Iceland. The criterion should be transparency. He is also said to be mulling a (deputy) chief of staff from Africa. We'll have more on this.

  While Inner City Press was writing up a UN Security Council meeting on Syria that went into the evening, and Periscope broadcasting, UN Security guards walked up, grabbed Inner City Press' laptop, blocked its Periscope camera and turned off the livestream.   Then eight UN Security officers led by Deputy Chief McNulty tore off Inner City Press' UN ID badge and carted off Inner City Press' laptop and camera, returning these by throwing them on the sidewalk of First Avenue.

 They did not allow Inner City Press to get coat or sweater, or the files in its office. No provision was made for this.

  The ejection letter was signed by the Under Secretary General for Public Information Cristina Galach of Spain but ultimately Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is in charge. Ban and his chief of staff Edmond Mulet and Deputy SG Jan Eliasson were all written to with details as this took place.

  USG Gallach's office, Darrin Farrant in charge, merely "took note" of questions about and criticism of the lack of due process. Gallach did not respond to email, even from Nobel Peace Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta, here.

  When Inner City Press was thrown out onto First Avenue, standing waiting, laughing and filming, was Voice of America's Margaret Besheer and another board member of the UN Correspondents Association, whose president Giampaoli Pioli told Inner City Press if it didn't remove a (truthful) article about his screening of a war crimes denial film for a tenant of his, Sri Lanka's then ambassador Palitha Kohona, he would get Inner City Press thrown out of the UN.

  But who is running this asylum? Ban Ki-moon, his spokesman also involved Stephane Dujarric (who threw Inner City Press out of the UN Press Briefing Room on January 29, also trying to turn off ICP's Periscoping phone), and, some surmise, some who don't like Inner City Press' questions. We'll have more on this.

Nike Law Firm Boies Schiller Dangled Cash To Not Spook Avenatti While Wired Up Jury Hears

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 31 –  When after three days of jury selection the trial of Michael Avenatti for allegedly extorting Nike began on January 29, Assistant US Attorney Robert Sobelman told the selected jurors that Avenatti was supposed to look out for the interests of his client, but he did not - he had a weapon, social media.   In cross examination on January 31, Avenatti's lawyer Howard Srebnick asked Scott Wilson who was a lawyer representing Nike with Boies Schiller in March 2019 about documents showing Nike's Carlton DeBose arranging for Gary Franklin to fly to Phoenix, where he paid basketball prospect Deandre Ayton's mother $10,000 in case.

 Wilson claimed that he hadn't realized the flight Nike paid for was to Phoenix, Ayton's home, because its acronym PHX is so similar to that of Nike's headquarters in Portland, PDX. To some it seemed evasive, as did Wilson's repeated claim that as Nike's lawyer he could not provide information.

  Also cited were payments to player Brandon McCoy's "handler" Shaun Manning, and Avenatti's settlement offer to then jury verdict against Kimberly-Clark (the latter, AUSA Podolsky objected to, and Judge Gardephe sustained it).

    Podolsky also objected, and Judge Gardephe also sustained the objection, when Howard Srebnick asked Wilson about being "wired up." Wilson explained his dangling of money in front of Geragos and Avenatti as an attempt not to "spook Avenatti," so he could be cajoled to make demands while being recorded. It didn't take much.

After Inner City Press Scoop on UN Prostitution Now Audio On Guterres Covering Up Hands In Pants

UN GATE, July 1 – The United Nations claims to have a zero tolerance for sexual exploitation by its staff and peacekeepers, but routinely covers up their abuses including the rape of children, withholding basic information which was provided to the Press under Ban Ki-moon but not now under Antonio Guterres. 

   Inner City Press, which Guterres has banned from the UN for 724 days as it asks about these and his abuses, on June 23 received from outraged UN whistleblowers video of sexual exploitation, they said, in a white UN-marked vehicle, here.  Now Instagram, Facebook.

  On July 1 at noon, Guterres' UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said he would release the results of the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) investigation in the afternoon. By midnight it had not happened.

 Now Inner City Press exclusively published audio of OIOS' Ben Swanson saying that one of Guterres' Assistant Secretaries General thrust his hand down the pants of a female staffer - and Guterres, "a politician," said to cover it up. Audio here, transcribed here:

"I was summoned to a meeting in the SGS conference room in February (2018) where the SG, DSG, Legal Counsel and of all the special advisors and all that were there.  The SG is a politician and he wanted a sound byte result and the soundbite result was that paragraph which I showed you before.  I tried to make the point that there's three overlapping things with this, there's the culture, the investigations and there's the accountability piece.    Now, I was trying to tell him what actually apart from the numbers that's coming in, the investigations piece is already, we're OK because we know what we're doing and we're able to do the investigations. It's just with the increase in demand and I said the accountability is a problem because of whatever the tribunals are doing. And it's your culture's the problem.  I said I said I had a D1 female D1 in my office last week. She in tears telling me about how an ASG put his hand inside her trousers and when she tried to discuss how to complain about it, she was told it wouldn't do her any good and he was a favored son. And you're a woman.  So I tried to tell the story and I got (knock on table) I was cut there."

  Guterres' OIOS investigations are a politicized scam. A fish rots from the head - Guterres covers up for his Assistant Secretary Generals grabbing crotches, and for whoring by UNTSO staff. Guterres should resign.
