Azaria & Andrea Lacoste continue on a journey of musical experimentation. The sound of this new record might surprise fans who are familiar with Azarias earlier release “Bugs”. This collaboration with the Venezuelan multi-instrumentalist artist exemplifies the organic synergy both artists display.

Maria Rita is a musical pioneer that was ahead of her time. On first hearing her song, 'Cântico Brasileiro No.3 (Kamaiurá)’, we thought it sounded like a contemporary remix that an artist such as Carl Craig could have produced. In fact, it came out in 1988 and was taken from Maria's 'Brasileira' album, released on the Brazilian, independent Acorde imprint. The song would go on to gain cult status with its inclusion on John Gomez's superb 'Outro Tempo' compilation, released on the Music From Memory label in 2017.

The album fuses new-age electronics with indigenous vocals and Amazonian rhythms. It is beautiful and unique and takes you on a journey through different moods, textures and ethereal planes. Through the sounds Maria created, you join her on a timeless voyage gazing into the future whilst embracing her powerful roots.

Maria Rita Stumpf was born in the southern inland of Brazil, in the mountains of Aparados da Serra. She started writing music at the age of 14, and through participation in festivals and song contests, she developed her material and sound. A move to Rio de Janeiro in 1985 furthered her career and led to the release of the 'Brasileira' album. The record features the legendary pianist Luiz Eça, alongside the group Uaktí and Ricardo Bordini.

1993 saw the release of 'Mapa das Nuvens (Map of the Clouds)' on CD via the Leblon label, but soon after, Maria would have a hiatus from the music industry, dedicating herself to her cultural and arts agency, Acorde. She left the stage and recordings behind, but quality always shines through and years after its original release, international diggers, producers and DJs rediscovered the greatness of Maria's music. This would lead to a re-issue of the ‘Brasileira’ LP, and later Optimo Music/Selva Discos released a 12” EP of ‘Brasileira’ remixes by Selvagem, Carrot Green and Joakim. Maria also spoke at the Red Bull Music Academy Festival in São Paulo, performed at both the Kino Beat Festival and the Brazilian leg of the Dutch festival, Dekmantel. Her two latest albums received critical acclaim, ’Inkiri Om’ in 2020 and ‘Ver Tente’ in 2022. At last, Maria has got the credit and kudos she deserves, inspiring new and future generations of producers and music lovers.

Though previously re-issued, it was after a conversation with Maria that we learned that she wanted to keep this sublime record in press, and this was something that we couldn’t wait to put into action. So here it is, the Mr Bongo pressing of ‘Brasileira’, housed in a gatefold cover.

‘Nandakke?’ is the anticipated debut album from Japanese-Belgian duo @ailimakesmusic on @eskimorecordings, featuring 10 tracks of surreal electro-pop, joyful electronica, house music and more. 

Lead track ‘Nandakke?’ is sung in the unique version of Japanese that singer Aili Maruyama and her father created to stay connected when she left Tokyo for Europe aged seven. The song goes out to all people with families living in different countries who are finding a way to stay in touch even when language is a barrier. 

“‘Nandakke?’ Is a Japanese word that roughly translates to "Well, what was it?”, often used when you are looking for a specific word," says Aili. "The song is about the language I speak with my dad, a mix of French and Japanese."

When Christmas Comes

The new album of Sigmatropic "Dead Computer Blues" comes as a natural continuation and evolution of the 18year music career of the band.

The album raises questions but also yearns for the future once dreamed, hoping that it will come back full of new promises. Its subject theme is the personal crisis experienced by everyone these days. The dead computer tells the story starting from the end, as the vehicle that redefines the future onto an orbit that is, finally, not prearranged by others. The dead computer is also the symbol of the redefinition of music.

From the pseudo-punk pseudo-criticism of "Onion Rock" to the politic-religious fiction of "When Jesus Walked the Streets of Athens" and from the nostalgic look of "Spaceface" (borrowed from a verse of David Bowie) to the cover version of  Libido Blume’s "Off Hand", the tracklisting of "Dead Computer Blues" consists of 10 tracks that are made with materials of prosperity and decline of our civilization. All the band members have collaborated in the creation of the final sound and in the arrangements, while "Crystallized" features John Drenogiannis on the electric guitar.

Το νέο album των Sigmatropic “Dead Computer Blues” έρχεται σαν φυσική συνέχεια και εξέλιξη της δεκαοχτάχρονης πορείας του συγκροτήματος. 

Το album έχει σαν κεντρική ιδέα την προσωπική κρίση που βιώνει ο καθένας μας, θέτει ερωτήματα, αλλά συγχρόνως νοσταλγεί το μέλλον που κάποτε ονειρευτήκαμε, ελπίζοντας ότι αυτό θα ξανάρθει γεμάτο νέες υποσχέσεις. Ο νεκρός υπολογιστής αφηγείται την ιστορία ξεκινώντας από το τέλος, ως το όχημα του επαναπροσδιορισμού του μέλλοντος επάνω σε τροχιά που, επιτέλους, δεν την έχουν προκαθορίσει άλλοι. Ο νεκρός υπολογιστής είναι επίσης και το σύμβολο του επαναπροσδιορισμού της μουσικής.

Από την ψευδο-πανκ ψευδο-κριτική του “Onion Rock” ως το παραμύθι πολιτικο-θρησκευτικής φαντασίας “When Jesus Walked the Streets of Athens” και από τη νοσταλγική ματιά του “Spaceface” (δανεισμένο από ένα στίχο του David Bowie) ως  την επανεκτέλεση του “Off Hand” των Libido Blume, τα 10 κομμάτια του “Dead Computer Blues”  είναι φτιαγμένα με υλικά ακμής και παρακμής από τον πολιτισμό μας. Mikkel Hess, alias Hess Is More, continues the run up to his forthcoming album with the single ‘Sometimes You Get Lucky’, dropping March 26 via Music For Dreams.

Hess recently returned from performing a series of ensemble concerts in New York and now sets his sights on his home of Denmark with several shows lined up, among them a sold out release concert at Hotel Cecil. The album, titled CÆKE, will drop April 23 and sees Hess return as (mostly) solo act.

Trained as a drummer, Hess started Hess Is More as an electronic solo project in the mid 00’s and has since evolved into a larger ensemble featuring musicians from both sides of the Atlantic. Hess Is More has released 10 albums and several EP’s and cross-disciplinary works in a career spanning two decades.

Hess Is More has received high acclaim as a live act, winning multiple awards for their cross-disciplinarian shows that often feature elements of theater and art installation.

The release of "Scenes From My Soul" marks the culmination of the career of one of the essential figures in the history of electronic music on the island of Mallorca, undoubtedly one of the most influential DJs of his generation and one of the most important figures in the Balearic sound. We are talking about someone who, since the very beginning, has been faithful to the vibe -not so much a style as a way of conceiving music, more concerned with what it provokes than with conforming to the rigid rules of any pattern. In fact, Pepe López Ojeda (Palma, 1968) proves on this first LP that his way of conceiving music has more to do with the creation of a landscape and evoking a moment: you can almost hear the breeze from the sea, your breath in sync with the waves in the background. 

In 2020, Pepe Link returned to his role as producer to shape a first single, "Gypsy Love Affair", after three decades behind some of the world's most prestigious booths, continuously demonstrating his impeccable taste as a music prescriber. Whether at the head of several radio programs or as musical director of the Cappuccino group, for which he has already directed ten compilations that have contributed to making the brand a globally recognized label, Pepe´s careful music curator work continues to impress and delight. For his personal project, it was clear that for his release there was no better label than Music for Dreams. 

In 2022, "Korasoul" would be released and from then on, in collaboration with the Copenhagen label, he began to dig into his hard drive in search of the best musical ideas and sketches he had accumulated over the years. From there emerged the songs that make up this album, which could be considered a career retrospective, almost a greatest hits compilation, were it not for the fact that all the songs (except those already mentioned) are unreleased and were recorded with a plethora of collaborators, including the engineer Tolo Servera, the legendary Cuban trumpeter Alejandro Delgado and Brazilian singer Marta Santamaria. 

The collaboration with Music for Dreams and the complicity with his alma mater Kenneth Bager has given him the opportunity to count on session musicians to bring the required organicity to the tracks.

To come full circle, Pepe Link enlisted the help of fellow DJ and producer Kiko Navarro to complete the mixing and mastering of the album. Both are two of the pillars of the island's electronic music scene, and he credits Kiko as one of his masters in terms of DJing and producing. The rest he has learned on his own since 1994, when he first stepped into a booth. To this day, he has achieved a mastery that few can match. That's millions of nights, hundreds of millions of beats, an enormous amount of good vibes. 

Now he has poured almost everything he knows about vibes into this album. Although in Pepe Link's case it would be more accurate to say what he feels rather than what he knows, because if one thing is clear when listening to "Scenes From My Soul," is that there are no filters or cutoffs here: Pepe Link has poured 30 years of experience into each of these songs, 30 years of music, of listening to it, of playing it, of feeling it; 30 years of merging his life with it.
