Friday the 13th at Odessa Amsterdam

This Easter brought us the first full moon party of the year at Ruigoord, bringing together an eclectic range of musician and DJ's.

The first two tracks of this set were to accompany a heathenish ritual to awaken the springtides in our hearts.

Last year we had such a blast playing together that we kind of decided to turn it into a Landjuweel tradition: an unprepped session of back2back shenanigans going wherever the beats would take us. 

This year we spun the Friday night of the Boogie Bos into a deep rave session for you all to enjoy.

Thank you Stefnitz for being such an amazing co-conspirator, and thank you for letting me host and program one of the nights of the awesome stage you put together for this year's Landjuweel! 

Next week I'm going to be uploading the tripped out Saturday night sessions at the Wilgenportaal, while getting ready to play a set a Georgies's festival at Ruigoord on the 25th together with Stefnitz, Mozes and Isis.

Landjuweel 2023 - Boogie Bos - Stefnitz b2b inphiknight

It was an absolute honour to put together the program for the entire Saturday of this amazing new area that we built in Ruigoord this year: het Wilgenportaal. We carved a little wonderland from between the willow trees, elderflowers and blackberry bushes in a never before used part of the village. 

During the day we had lectures, story telling and lovely songs and live music. But I had something special planned for the night.

Ever since I've been coming to the Landjuweel I dreamt of a space where the music was more weird, more peculiar and tripped out during the night. And this year that dream came to fruition, and here is the recording of the entire night.

I opened the night with a wave of spacious, sparkly, slo-fast, energizing ambient, braindance, jazz-bass, trip-hoppy dubby tracks. 

Then Dj+ took over at around 2:05 taking the music down into a level deeper and harder laced with idm, glitch, bass and braindance.

at 4:06 Ly Foulidis took over to melt away into the morning sun with some minimal, ambient and meditative trance music.

Seeing a packed dancefloor zoned out and tuned in on unconventional music felt glorious.

Landjuweel 2023 Wilgenportaal: Inphiknight x Dj+ x LY Foulidis

After a wonderful december playing around the Netherlands and Austria, it was time to upload one of my favourite sets of the past month. This one was played in Groningen!

From some modern classical ambient and jazz interpretation of classic trip hop tracks, to deep mesmerising techno and funky jazzy bass tracks, moving between the Apalachian mountains, Japan, Bollywood, Warsaw and acid laced Arabian deserts.

Ecstatic Dance Groningen Christmas 2023

In the curation of a setlist for an ecstatic dance, I always let myself be guided by the latest inspiring finds. They're the corner stones around which I gather my collection to make an interesting and exhilarating journey. 

The past few weeks one was the new Dune film and the mesmerising score by Hans Zimmer, the exquisite Arabic-French World-Fusion of Bachar Mar-Khalifé, the French weird-pop tech-house of Jacques, Aleksi Perälä's spaced out deep psychedelia, Photay's jazzy funk, Dauwd's warm heart-throb techno, Nadia Struiwigh's ambient idm and Reda Darwish's devilishly percussive whirly dervish. 

I played variations of this set in Dansunie Deventer, Ecstatic Dance North Groningen and finally at home base Odessa Amsterdam, where this set was recorded. It garnered so much praise there I should upload it here to Soundcloud.

Ecstatic Dance - Border Crossings

It was my honour to be invited to play the Midsummer Solstice in the beautiful Pirita Cloister ruins in Tallinn, Estonia. I can barely imagine a more suitable location to dance in tribute to the sun. 

An open sky, surrounded by the ruined medieval walls: a place to stand with the movements of the past, and evoke them to dance into the future with us. 

The perfect starting point for this musical journey was a psalm by Hildegard von Bingen, which I imagine to have been sung here since the cloister opened in 1407: Spiritus Sanctus Vivificans, a song that seems as much an ode to the sun as anything else. From there I wove together the old and the new from all the far flung reaches of the world, following the the lines of the beginning:

The Holy Spirit: living and life-giving,
the life that’s all things moving,
the root in all created being:
of filth and muck it washes all things clean—
out-scrubbing guilty staining, its balm our wounds constraining—
and so its life with praise is shining,
rousing and reviving
all.

We've built the willow portal to channel the cosmic leakage of Ruigoord into your body through all of the senses. 

It was my pleasure to create a special musical journey into the depths of Saturday night with a blend of mesmerising electronica filled with scintillating vibrations, obscure textures, other-worldly melodies and subtle resonances rooted in the other side of consciousness. 

To be honest, this might be one of my favourite sets I've ever played. Feeling free to not just play straight bangers, but delving into the more subtle and refined realms of electronic music and using that to create a different kind of blissed out energy on the dance floor, is an absolute blessing!

WIRWAR at HAL25 Alkmaar is an eclectic electronic mini festival with three small stages blasted with lights and projections. I had the honour to close the night in the 'Lage Kijkcijfers, Hoge Waardering' with some leftfield mesmerising techno bangers, moving from 135 to 175 bpm.

MAANZIN surrealist ball - Ruigoord November 2024

Every year on december 28 Ruigoord's Ballongezelschap takes back Paradiso to throw the wildest party of the year. Everyone dresses up, and the Ruigoord community concocts an absurd musical to kick off the night. This year it was in honor of the passing of one of the patriarchs of our community Hans Plomp, co-author of the dutch classic UIT JE BOL, a handbook for trippers. 

This year I had the pleasure to play the Main room and blow the top of the dancefloor with my idea of psychedelic rave music. Its an eclectic fusion of techno with elements of jazz, funk, bass, tribal, IDM and disco. Enjoy!

UIT JE BOL // BALLONNENFEEST 2024 // PARADISO AMSTERDAM

My selections are always guided by what is alive in my heart and mind. The songs that speak to the beating in my chest, and the harmonies that resonate with the musings in my head. 

After a fantastic end to 2024, a year wherein I fell in love with DJing even more - playing in Estonia at the hight of summer and a steaming sold-out Paradiso in the depths of winter - this new year started with a deep dive into my archives, diaries and libraries both musical and literary, finding new beginnings for old odds and ends. Memory is like the night sky, so many points of starlight shining down into our presence, planting seeds in our heart.
