Natif de Tourcoing dans le nord de la France, située entre Lille et la frontière belge. En 1988 à l'âge de 15 ans il découvre la radio SIS Mouscron (Belgique), le son de la techno de Chicago et Detroit, qui avait submergé toute l'Angleterre et qui déferlera sur la Belgique.

Déjà fortement influencé par la Soul, la Funk, le Hip Hop, l'Electronica et la Cold Wave le poussent au fil des années à devenir tourneur de disques dans diverses soirées, clubs, bars en France, Belgique et Allemagne et à travers plusieurs émissions radio pour partager sa passion pour l'électronique. musique et se connecter avec des personnes partageant les mêmes idées, il continue d'explorer le côté plus profond de la musique électronique, jouant de la techno influencée par Detroit jusqu'à la deep house.

Son voyage en tant que DJ a élargi son horizon à la production, il a travaillé sur de nombreux projets et remixes.

Hometown Tourcoing in northern France, located between Lille and the Belgian border. In 1988 at the age of 15 he discovers radio SIS Mouscron (Belgium), the sound of Chicago and Detroit techno, which had submerged the whole of England and which will sweep over Belgium .

Already heavily influenced by Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Electronica and Cold Wave push him over the years to become as record spinner in various parties, clubs, bars in France, Belgium and Germany and through several radio programmes to share his passion for the electronic music and connect with like minded people, he continues to explore the deeper side of electronic music, playing Detroit influenced techno through to deep house.

His trip as DJ has widened up his horizon to the production, he worked in many projects and remixes.

Holy Island, an island off of the coast of North Wales is where Dez Williams begun spinning wax at an early age and now maintains his humble analogue / digital studio. Isolated from the marketing, fashion and pretentious attitudes that plague the music industry, Dez is free to express himself through his machines. Safe from this environment he is unconstrained and has no urge to conform with any ideal or aesthetic and thus his electronic music is pure self expression. A window into his soul. His sound is perhaps a product of his daily grind with boredom, escapism, events in his life and a long term passion for technology, horror and science fiction. Inspired by many of the classic Chicago / Detroit / electro / techno producers, like the finest, his sound is unique, uncompromising and unpredictable. His vision of techno is deep and futuristic with a heavy dose of funk. Dez's passion for sound and the darker side of the human spirit compels him to create tracks on an almost daily basis and he sits on an incredibly vast archive of cassettes, mini-discs and CD's of his work. Yet his reclusive nature dictates that his release schedule remains sparse. His tracks can range from driving techno, to melancholy and dark synthesizer orchestrations, ghostly deep listening, straight up electro cuts and beyond. Sometimes simple, sometimes complex, within his sounds are vast amounts of detail for the listener to decipher. Emotions transmitted through mathematics and code. Williams' tracks have found their way into the sets of DJ's like Dave Clarke, Adam X, John Peel, Ellen Allien, Mike Dred and Rob Hall. He has constantly retained an underground / cult fanbase. His debut LP 'Elektronik Religion' for the SCSI label was hailed as "One of the very few truly great electro albums of the new century". Dez remains true to the underground and simply creates for the love and need to do so. The mark of a true artist. He continues to DJ and play live sets across the world and has had releases on a variety of labels including Acruacreee, Ai, Cheap, SCSI, Blase, Voodoo, Minimal Soul & Earwiggle...

Barker & Baumecker take Turns from techno, bass, breaks, and experimental terrain with their second album on Ostgut Ton.

Sam Barker and Andreas Baumecker’s lives have always revolved around different kinds of music. That’s partly why their productions as Barker & Baumecker are more unpredictable, harder to pin down than what you might expect from a label borne out of a techno club. And while their music is clearly built for dancing, listening to it reveals a deep love and respect for many forms of electronic music – bonding over more experimental dance forms is what brought them together in the first place. Imagining their music at any decent club, but disrupting the flow on the floor is what brings us to their second album Turns. An amalgamation of their unique musical minds, transcending electronic music genres and styles, while further developing and refining the Barker & Baumecker sound aesthetic.

For this pre-listening playlist, to give a better impression of the lengthy album tracks, we skipped through different parts of the songs (beginning, middle and end) and edited the samples into these single sound clips, condensing the up to 13:50 min long tracks (Statik) into 2:00 to 3:00 min edits.

Our 20th feature in Shelter's Live Series comes from Tel Aviv's @Maayan Nidam, who has now been making waves from her Berlin studio for 15 years.

Her stripped-back, deep set back in March utilises an intriguing vinyl collection and obscure interludes for re-contextualisation, the main highlights often coming from the most unlikely tracks.

One to watch in the coming years, here she is live from our basement back in March...

For the 45th instalment in the Mosaic Mix Series , UK dub techno producer Harvey Jones (AKA El Choop)  offers up some deep and mellow vibes to soothe your lockdown.

Approaching house and techno with a dubbed out edge, El Choop’s sound takes DNA from timeless techno classics and enhances it with the refined disciplines of today. With an arsenal of digital and analogue hardware, this hybrid sound consolidates (in his own words)  ‘old and new into something altogether different.’

With a healthy back catalogue of vinyl releases on Greyscale, ETUI and Default Position,  El Choop’s productions have already made a solid impression on lovers of the deep and dubbed out sound

CLAUS BACHOR plays SONS OF ACIDO_ACID CARNIVAL 09022013

Insect O. composes music for travelling between ambient, dub and techno. The journeys are the inspirations for his hypnotic sound. In his studio he creates musically memories using tones of analog synthesizers, sounds from his modular system, endless echoes and warm reverbs.

In 2018  he released his first full lenght album Atacama on his own imprint Etui  Records. Together with Melbourne’s Echo Inspectors he also recorded Bourne Dub and Bribie Dub, which has been released on Australian Primary  [Colours] imprint.

The roots of his music are somewhere between dub and detroit techno,  inspired by artists like Basic Channel or Maurizio. His goal is to transform dub techno in an up-to-date audio frame, ranging from spheric and hypnotic to rough and driven. In 1998 he founded the label Etui Records and worked with many new and upcoming artists.

Always on the  look to enhance his art of music production he attended to FELD workshop  with Ulf Langheinrich at ICAS festival 2015, DAVE Workshop Camp with  Electric Indigo, Thomas Wagensommerer and Robert Henke at University of  Music in Dresden 2017 and 2018.

Nowadays he is member of DAVE festival board with focus on organising  workshops about music production and music business.

Founded by Insect O. aka Oliver Hartmann in 1998 and co-runned by Soren Matschiste from 2006 - 2010 Etui Records has been released over 30 vinyl releases, 7 compilations and several digital only releases. In 2011 Etui started the new vinyl series Etui Low Tech Dub to focus on the deep and dubby side of techno and transfer it into an up-to-date audioframe


With Etui Winter Camp compilation series, Etui brings you a musically fireplace for cold moments with beautiful sounding tracks between ambient, dub and techno.
