This track is a collaboration between me and Eido Eido. Eido asked me for a piece to orchestrate for his soon to be released Mental Tronica Vlll. I sent him a Finale file with a very basic version of the piece and he ran with it. I think his realization is spectacularly well done! Much better than if I'd done it myself. This track was recorded in my home studio well over 20 years ago. I learned this one from a collection of Spanish vihuela music arranged for guitar by Emilio Pujol which I bought in Naples Italy. I first heard it on Charlie Byrd's album of vihuela music which I believe was the first of its kind.

Valderrabano Soneto 3

One of my first improvisations using the multitrack capability of the Electroharmonix 2880 with the Roland GR1 as sound source. Improvised and then mixed from the 2880 directly to DAT.

The Persistence Of Memory

The background was improvised to an electroharmonix 2880 and the various parts divided up among the four channels. The piece as heard here was performed live in one take. In between the sections of the improvised guitar solo, I mixed the four channels of the backing tracks from the 2880 on the fly.

Quietly Burning

This is a track with the band Potential Difference. It's a traditional twelve bar blues with chords based on the half-whole diminished scale. The players are: Andrew Payne drums, Goerge Foster bass guitar, Jay Rakes guitar, and Steve Jolemore guitar. Jay and I trade solos on this in a traditional head cutting blues performance.

Lily Of Ocean View

This track began as a piece for Guitar Craft ensemble and did get played during a tour of Middle America with RF and the League of Crafty Guitarists. I wrote pretty much everything here with assistance on the middle section of the tune by fellow Crafty and friend Martin Schwutke who came up with the cool bass line. This recorded version was arranged for Potential Difference and played at a number of gigs with me on the GR 300 guitar synth melody, Jay Rakes on rhythm guitar, Andrew Payne on drums and George Foster on bass guitar. On this recording Jay is absent and I take the rhythm and lead guitar(s) by overdubbing.

St Anthony's Fire

This was composed for the band Potential Difference to play and was learned by the band when we became a three piece for a brief period after recording a particularly bad rehearsal. After the band reunited, this was still played in concert as a trio. The players on this recording are; Andrew Payne drums, George Foster bass guitar, and Steve Jolemore guitars. Of particular note here is the very fine drum part which was composed by Andrew Payne and played by him with stunning accuracy and passion. The title is a joke and refers to an amazing piece of music written by guitarist/composer Fred Frith which was  recorded on Leg End - the first album by Henry Cow.
