Christina Ondrus is a Los Angeles Artist. In 2010 she was an artist fellow with the Terra Foundation for American Art in Giverny, France. A forthcoming publication entitled "An Invisible Way" will present a documentation of her experiences at that residency. She's had work at Artist Curated Projects, Public Fiction, and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. Christina is also the founding director of the artist run initiative KNOWLEDGES.

John P. Hogan is also a Los Angeles artist. Most recently his performance, Song of Yourselves, premiered at Automata Los Angeles. A publication in association with Song of Yourselves is forthcoming from Golden Spike Press this fall. A related written work and series of drawings are available for purchase through Material press as part of their Limited Editions series. Hogan has exhibited and performed at venues including MCASD, Yerba Buena Center, Fritz Haeg's Sundown Salon, MAK Center, and Machine Project. He has written for Art21 and his essay on the work of painter Ben White is included in the forthcoming book Ruin Upon Ruin from Insert Blanc Press.

The Boston Review called Vanessa Place “the spokesperson for the new cynical avant-garde,” the Huffington Post characterized her work as “ethically odious,” while philosopher and critic Avital Ronell said she is “a leading voice in contemporary thought.” Vanessa Place was the first poet to perform as part of the Whitney Biennial; a content advisory was posted. Exhibition work has appeared at MAK Center/Los Angeles; Denver Museum of Contemporary Art; the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art; The Power Plant, Toronto; the Broad Museum, East Lansing; and Cage 83 Gallery, New York. Selected recent performance venues include Museum of Modern Art, New York; Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art; Andre Bely Center, St. Petersburg, Russia; Kunstverein, Cologne; Whitechapel Gallery, London; Frye Art Gallery, Seattle; the Sorbonne; and De Young Museum, San Francisco. Place also works as a critic and criminal defense attorney, and is CEO of VanessaPlace Inc, the world’s first poetry corporation.

Kim Calder lives in Los Angeles, where she studies contemporary literature and critical theory at the University of California, Los Angeles. She holds an M.F.A. in poetry from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her work has most recently appeared in Unsaid Literary Journal, Joyland Poetry, Jacket2, and The Volta.

An active editor and curator, Mathew works as editor & publisher of Insert Blanc Press, General Director of General Projects, and he has curated events, readings and ephemeral art shows throughout Los Angeles. He co-produces and co-hosts the art and culture podcast The People on KCHUNG radio 1630AM with Ben White.

Chelsea inhabits The Theater, as a player in LA's own Gawdafful Theater Company. In 2009 Chelsea began a long­term holiday music project, True Holiday Classic (Vol. I­III), while other original vocal and instrumental music is heard on her 2013 cassette, Popular American Song. In 2014 Chelsea and colleague Caitlin Adams formed Best Friends, an experimental dance performance collective. Chelsea has two cats.

Andrew Choate is the author of "Too Many Times I See Every Thing Just The Way It Is" (Residual Press, PRB Editions), "Language Makes Plastic of the Body" (Palm Press) and "Stingray Clapping" (Insert Blanc Press). He is currently working on two books: "Learning," which will be published by Writ Large Press and "I Love You More," for Insert Blanc. He is a member of Inner Dinner, a performance art dining collective, and is the host of The Unwrinkled Ear radio show on KCHUNG every other Tuesday from 5­7pm PST. His most recent piece of music writing was about the 2014 Nickelsdorf Konfrontationen. In terms of pictures, he is saintbollard.

Simone Forti is an American postmodern choreographer and musician living in Los Angeles. Since the 1960s she has become known for a style of dancing and choreography that was largely based on basic everyday movements, such as games and children's playground activities, and improvisation. Over the course of her career she has worked with such luminaries as: Anna Halprin, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Robert Whitman and Yoko Ono among others.

We’ll also be talking to Jason Underhill who has worked as Forti’s assistant for the past several years. Jason is an artist in Los Angeles. His work has been screened and exhibited internationally in the U.S. and around Europe. Jason received his MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2009 and his BFA from CalArts in 2005. He is also the writer director and producer with Rena Kosnett of Golden Retriever a six-episode comedy web series.

On this episode our guests are Phil Chang & Peter Holzhauer. Phil Chang is an artist and photographer who was born in Indiana and has lived and worked in Los Angeles for over two decades. Peter Holzhauer is a photographer who lives and works in Los Angeles. Originally from Maine, he did his MFA at UCLA and is an adjunct instructor at USC. 

In a new installment of Notes from the People this episode, we’re featuring a piece by Jacob Wick an artist, improviser, and writer who lives in Mexico City. This group exercise is intended to assist participants in locating the role past impressions play in horizoning everyday experience.

On this episode our guests are Gladys-Katherina Hernando and Adam D. Miller. Gladys-Katherina Hernando splits her time between Miami and Los Angeles as an independent curator. She also is the co-founder of and a curator at JOAN, which is a gallery here in LA. Adam D. Miller lives and works in Los Angeles and is the co-founder of the artist run gallery The Pit.

In a new edition of Notes from the People  we have an excerpt of an audio piece by LeRoy Stevens from his wide ranging project Menu Options. The excerpt is from a 4 ½ hour piece called Presidential Debate, 2016 specifically from the third presidential debate. The full recording was made live during each of the 2016 Presidential debates using a rotating wireless microphone positioned between active radios.

Shagha Ariannia is an artist originally from Iran who has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 2001. Her show Who Sings the Nation State? He is a practicing poet and collage artist who also founded the gallery High Energy Constructs in 2005 which was a performance and exhibition venue in Chinatown, LA. Mitch Temple is a visual artist and filmmaker currently based in Los Angeles. He founded the arts non-profit Root Division while getting his MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Ryan Taber and Katie Grinnan talk to us about Sailor's Valentines, King George III, period furniture, eversion, bastard mahogany, scale, dimensionality, specular narratives, the desert, dreaming, nature made strange, interiority, and much much more!

Ryan Taber is an artist and a furniture maker living and working in Los Angeles. He currently has a show of new sculptural works at the Torrance Art Museum in Torrance, CA. He also runs the wood program at Cal State University Long Beach.

Katie Grinnan is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. She has had solo shows at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and at the Whitney in New York, and recently she was included in the show, People, at Deitch Projects Los Angeles. She has a show coming up at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery opening on May 19th for recipients of the 2019 City of Los Angeles (COLA) Individual Artist Fellowship. She teaches in the sculpture program at Cal State University Long Beach and is currently represented by the gallery Commonwealth and Council.

Rachel Roske is a painter living and working in Los Angeles. She recently had a show at Elephant Gallery in Los Angeles. She teaches drawing at Otis College of Art & Design.

Dustin Metz is a painter living and working in Los Angeles. He is a co-founder of the artist run gallery Ms Barbers that was in operation from 2015-2017. He was also recently in a two person show at Parker Gallery in Los Feliz.

Paul Outlaw is a Los Angeles-based experimental theater artist and vocalist whose award-winning solo projects have been presented across the United States and in Europe. His recent show BBC Big Black Cockroach was at REDCAT’s New Original Works festival here in Los Angeles this past month… It was directed by Sara Lyons also a past guest from episode 72 of The People.

Micaela Tobin is a soprano, sound artist, and teacher based in Los Angeles who specializes in experimental voice and contemporary opera, composing under the moniker "White Boy Scream." 

Also Paul is in a show by Asher Hartman and Gawdawfful National Theater Company, The Dope Elf, coming up in September at Yale Union, in Portand, OR, and then at The Lab in San Francisco, CA, in Spring 2020. You might remember we did a fundraiser at General Projects for the show this past June - so of course we love the show and you should definitely check it out if you can.

Deborah Aschheim is a new media artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. This year she is the artist in residence for the LA County Registrar-Recorder County Clerk, working with them on voter education and outreach.

Don Edler is an artist and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He founded Elevator Mondays in 2017, a social exhibition space, curatorial project and experimental publishing company. He recently had a show at Hunter Shaw Fine Art in LA, titled Two Minutes to Midnight 

Nina Sarnelle is an artist and musician living in Los Angeles. She is a founding member of two different collectives, the Institute for New Feeling and dadpranks. She is in a show opening on November 29th at Human Resources in Los Angeles called Ecology of the Edge and will be performing at the opening reception. Also if you’re in Denver Colorado you can check out a show called The Fulfillment Center at Black Cube thru December 7th.
