In May 2023, the idea for Obscure mid 2000's Japanese blog post started when I accidentally stumbled across a Japanese fashion blog while searching for cover art for my Soundcloud account @juliandurbin. The thought of using Japanese blogs for artwork interested me. Once I started going through webpages, I realized there were decades' worth of blogs with sometimes thousands of posts containing photos and writings. I would spend hours going blog to blog, taking screenshots, translating, and reading posts. I take pride in saving these bits of Japanese internet history (as lame as that might sound). I know now that it's a lie when people say, "Once something's on the internet, it's there forever." Plenty of stuff will get forgotten and eventually lost or deleted. If you're interested in something you find, I advocate you should archive it some way or another. I still am, even now, exploring Japanese blogs. Since I started, the stuff I find gets cropped, saved, and my favorites get used for album cover art and other side art projects.

In late June 2023, due to a growing number of saved photos, I began uploading to this new account, aptly named after my newfound hobby. I would post extra tracks that didn't make the final cut, paired with an image that fit the song. That approach, in ways, has stayed the same. But that never meant the music here was less special or were "throwaways." With time, I now prefer some of these beats over the ones that were getting posted on my main account.

But unfortunately, since the beginning of this year, it feels like I've been slowly drifting away from this account, and today I figured it's time to move on. From the songs to the cover art, I don't regret spending the time to make all this. In the future, I'll try to make an effort to post all these songs to the Internet Archive so they're backed up somewhere. With all that being said, I wanna say thank you for listening to what I had to give and for being a part of this little journey I started.
