Aside from his renown as radio guru and director of Sushi Records, JAXX DA FISHWORKS is a Tokyo native that has been putting out a whole mess of productions that push the limits and pull the numbers. His newest is an obstreperous speaker slugger, a highly pressurized piece of broken beat submerged in jumbled, talking synth sequences, into-the-wild animal calls, and a breakdown that brings out a grip of blog house angst.

Track of the Day: JAXX DA FISHWORKS “LE LE”

The track is helmed by 18-year-old Andrew Luce, who is wise beyond his age. “Up to You” is a simple cut that reminds us that less can be more—a downtempo, dare I say, chillwave song that is more apropos to the comedown than the dancefloor. There is no doubt in our mind that “Up to You” will be playing at sunrise at multiple festivals this season. Often, when there are too many cooks in the kitchen, you get a track that feels butchered. However, the collaboration between Andrew Luce, graves and Chelsea Cutler is a fine example of how collaboration can ultimately create the best track possible from the stems. The best of all three can really be heard on “Up to You.”

“Freak” sees the House of Virus gents teaming up with studio shiner LoVance on a number that’s sure to make clubs lose their shit. Heavy-set and hung deep, the collab is pinned down by a vocal sample most should be able to identify right off the bat. Add that to its attitude-adjusting chords and big-league basslines, and you’re messing with a certifiable house banger.

Armed with three intricately constructed originals, Emery Warman takes formation and hits us with his 'Heavy Duty Dolls' EP. The second cut is where it’s at; cleverly named “King Kongas,” the tune comes spring-loaded with complex and relentlessly pounding percussive hits. The drums take on most of the workload, but it’s the addition of the female vocal play and sputtering synth strokes that’ll ensure this tune will hold floors captive for years to come.

ZDS puts his tech house genius to work on “Do You Like,” from the EP of the same name, which Treasure Fingers’ Psycho Disco! imprint has just put out. The titular cut is freakishly infectious and proves simplicity can truly go a long way. A robotic vocal is heard answering a line of questions regarding which genres it likes personally (apparently, trance is not its jam), while a low-strung rhythm hovers atop robust bass plucks that ring out behind sheeny chord stabs.

The frequent cohorts have arrived with their next joint endeavor, the Going Crazy EP, with Mar-T’s own Wow! Recordings taking up hosting privileges this time around. Heard on the flip is this sloshing little bugger, “Mosquitos on Acid,” which matches the level of peak-time insanity featured on the titular cut.
