Blimey, time flies! It all started just over two years ago with our first Selections series. A lot may have changed but one thing will always remain - our love for good vibes. 2016 has been a stand-out year of releases on Dirtybird, including the launch of both our sister label Dirtybird Select, as well our subscription service, the Birdfeed. But the year isn’t over just yet, and it’s not in our nature to just sit on the bench and ride it out, especially as we’ll be ringing in 2017 on a weekend. So we decided to double-down on our end of year special, and present 10 brand new originals to end the year with a bang. 

Featuring nearly a dozen artists across an array of genres, the second volume of “The New Years Special” includes Dirtybird staples Walker & Royce & Sage Armstrong, newest members of the family Dateless, Sirus Hood and Ciszak, and household names Roland Clark & Weiss. 

It wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t debut a few new artists as well, so we added some breakthrough tracks from future talents Egopool, 6ftshort, Slow Jam and Elevator Music.

-How long have you been creating music?
I used to write and record on my keyboard since I was a young fella, maybe about 9 or 10. But I've been producing since I was 14 years old, so properly about 12 years now.

-What do you use to make your tracks?
I've been addicted to Reason since I started. I'm on Reason 9.5, and can't see myself changing anytime soon. I like to do out my drum patterns first on my Korg Electribe SX, then recreate them in Reason. It's nice to have your hands on a physical, limited, drum machine, I find the restrictions make you a lot more creative.

-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
I'd been a fan of Claude Van Stroke for a long time, since I heard the Magic Carpet Ride remix when I was a teenager. So when he started his own label, I naturally just started to follow it. I think when I heard Shiba San's Okay, I realized how many banger the label had in it's repertoire and it really sparked my interest.

-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
There's too many. The main man himself, Claude Van Stroke. I've been loving Westend's subby basslines, they remind me of old DNB classics that I loved when I first started DJing and producing. I've been rinsing 'Tarzan' by Black V Neck constantly. As well, Rebuke is a fellow Irish man and a serious producer who's been working hard for years. He's hailed as a bit of a hero here.  

-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
The trials and tribulations of a Hairy Bastard.

-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
The Prodigy @ 02 Dublin - 2009.

-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
The Jurassic period. I wanna ride on a t-rex and do a load of wheelies.

-What species of bird best describes you and why?
A budgie, because I don't shut the fuck up.

-What does Dirtybird mean to you?
Innovative, well-produced, fun music. Dirtybird tunes have played a large part throughout my DJ life.
