About the EP =>
Bremer was one of our most beloved discoveries of 2017. We didn't hesitate to get in contact with the young man, who would soon join our family. Now, one year later we have a collaboration between him and rising talent Nordfold for one of our sleakest releases, we have put out yet. Rounding up the EP with near perfection, is a remix coming from our very own Sam Goku.

Main titel track „Yano" builds a fancy dance arrangement around an incredible vocal sample from 1976 sung by Akiko ‚Yano'. An Uplifting synth lead, organic percussion patterns and Yano's vocals create an asian touched atmosphere, that stands out in an era of uncountable music productions.

With nostalgic, rolling basslines and iconic vocal pads from the 80's, „Helmer" embodies the sound of retro. As big lovers of Drive and new synth-wave generation, this production is truly an affair of the heart for us. A fantastic B-Side rounding up the theme of fusing old and new elements in the best way possible.

With finesse and gentle care, Sam Goku returns on Nie Wieder Schlafen with his second remix and yet again, it has the potential to fascinate the masses, while maintaining an incredibly humble underground sound. Inspired by the Original, Sam Goku extends on what was there, rather than drastically changing it. A light-hearted piano melody and Goku's characteristic pads elevate the original's core elements to an even dreamier state, while maintaining the fantastic groove and adding beefier low-fequencies.

Maeve are thrilled to welcome long time friend Kev Sheridan to the label for his debut release. Kev is one of the most talented musicians we know and its an honor for us to release his first work to the world. This project has been developing over the past few years and now we have a record we feel showcases the deep musicality and talent Kev has.

Although not sounding like a typical Maeve dance floor record, the A side entitled "Alone in Berlin" is a stunningly beautiful piece of music. Its measured melancholic flow creates a shared empathy between listener and composer.

"Wash Over Me" is the B1, and with it comes a change of pace moving into a broken beat rhythm but still maintaining the emotion of the A side. Haunting pads hang over clean staccato percussion creating an overall euphoric vibe.

"Losing Someone Is Never Easy" is the final track on the EP. This straight up house cut again shows Sheridans deep musicality using a wide range of instruments to weave a beautiful tapestry made for special dance floor moments.

Real Name, No Gimmicks. 

In late 2015, Luca’s debut “Situations” first saw the light of day on Feines Tier. The EP was a whimsical fusion of his Hip-Hop roots with electric rhythms and mesmerizing boogie. Now, with his forthcoming third solo record “Proper Preaching”, he comes full circle. 

Musto returns with a blend of handmade instrumental sound by his fellow musicians and that special dash of his notorious intricate groove.
 
The record takes the listeners on a spiritual ride of revelations and hidden messages. Simultaneously, the four tracks deal with philosophical issues by telling stories of morality in “Lucy’s Intension,” the ambitions in “State of Grind” and “Lie To Me,” and finally faith in “Proper Preaching.” 

All of this is merged together by the use of samples as well as Luca’s own recordings of words and atmospheres. Finally, the bigger picture is revealed, fueled by the eloquent subtext and the memory of the ones he lost.

Release Info:
Mulya and Sobek author our next Chapter, reprising a creative relationship which has already borne significant fruit. Their work has seen them find a home together with labels including Monaberry and TAU, while they have been picked up individually by imprints including Bedrock and Get Physical.

Here they offer three big hitters. Title track Mirrored Screen opens things in style, its chunky afro techno groove offset by an enigmatic synth line and a choppy single note pattern that is laden with tension. Tribal vocals add to the mix before the main hook opens out and satisfyingly hits home.

Shaking Hands is the follow up, built around a distorted, pitching percussive groove for a determinedly heads down, wild affair that is bound to move the dancefloor.

Rounding things off, Hard Curve is just as heavyweight. Equally moody and foreboding as it is hypnotic and driving, it comes paired with an Edition by breakout artist Rinzen (mau5trap). Rinzen's rework is progressive and euphoric, communicating and deploying a sense of scale that is reminiscent of classic Sasha or Stephan Bodzin.

Rinzen's Edition makes for a fitting closer to a very strongly rounded EP from Mulya and Sobek.

KOMPAKT welcomes back Copenhagen’s WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, gives their music an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying. 

Though we both have yet to strike a note together since the release of their 2012 full length “Brighter” (KOM 254), WhoMadeWho have been remarkably productive. With two full lengths, a DJ mix for Watergate’s series and releasing two of 2019’s most played out club tracks together with Rampa (Innervisions) and Artbat (Watergate Records), the trio have found themselves diving more and more into the world of electronic music, tapping into their goldmine of connections within the scene to spearhead an array of collaborations. 

Synchronicity is all about ‘meaningful coincidences’ – bringing interpretation to bear on connections that have no actual causal relationship. It’s a canny concept to pin onto Copenhagen trio WhoMadeWho’s latest album, which sees them return to Kompakt for the first time since 2012’s Brighter.

This re-established connection helps us to understand the synchronicity at play, the way that the WhoMadeWho core ave built an album around collaboration with friends and peers, much as Kompakt is all about cross-connections and family. On Synchronicity, WhoMadeWho call on friends old and new – Michael Mayer, Echonomist, Adana Twins, Alex Boman, Robag Wruhme, Frank Wiedemann, Sainte Vie, Mano Le Tough, Marc Piñol, Rebolledo, and Perel is the cast list; WhoMadeWho direct the material, shaping it into one lovingly flowing gem of dance-pop glory.

There’s something particularly generous about hearing an album as all-inclusive and open-hearted as Synchronicity in the midst of the profound social and cultural shifts we’re currently experiencing. While some songs on Synchronicity were recorded together, in real time, such as the collaborations with Adana Twins and Rebolledo, most of them have taken place via long distance, thanks to the pandemic lockdown. But you don’t need to know who was where to understand either the magnesium-flare melancholy of “Sooner”, recorded with Piñol, which has you holding your breath with the gentle thrill of the song’s lush melody, or the stomping strut of the following Adana Twins collaboration, “Shadow Of Doubt”.

Elsewhere, there’s the stentorian robot voice at the heart of “Hamstring”, where they’re joined by Michael Mayer; the lustrous headsoak of “Twenty Tears”, a tender intervention by Rebolledo; the strip-light, slow-motion disco strut of “Cecil”, produced alongside Echonomist; or the glittering, arpeggio dreamwork that Perel helps sculpt into shape on “Der Abend birgt keine Ruh.”… Really, there’s so much to celebrate here, a panoply of pleasures. From pop revelations to dancefloor delirium to slow-burning brooders, Synchronicity is just that; a space for the joys of the unexpected to collide, and to be given meaning by their coincidental co-existence in WhoMadeWho’s beautiful world.
