Alright, here they are: our TOP 20 of the Chymera "Fathoms" remix competition in cooperation with Juno Download. We received many remixes and it was not an easy task to whittle them down to only 20. 

The overall quality level was high and inevitably there are remixes we didn't choose which maybe also deserved to be a part of the selection. However, we tried to remain as objective as possible. 

The following criteria were important to us: Creative use of the parts, technical skills, general feeling and in the end, personal taste. Furthermore we tried to find a balance between remixes which stayed close, but with a unique twist to the original, and versions which developed in another direction. 

Afterall we are very happy with our Top 20 now and we hope you like them as much we do. 

We would like to say a big thank you to all participants for their submissions and we hope you had fun working with the parts.

Giangi Cappai from Italy has had a prosperous career producing under various synonyms and hitting the charts worldwide on several occasions. He has had the pleasure of officially remixing pop icon Madonna, as well as dance-music legends Afrika Bambaataa, Peter Rauhofer, Peter Presta, Offer Nissim or Ralphi Rosario just to mention a few.

For his Déepalma debut Giangi teamed up with US R’n’B vocalist Nia Martin to deliver ‚Black Queen‘, an exceptional song with insanely sexy vocal, layered over some sublime, summery house beats, complete with two top-notch remixes.

First on the remix front are label head honcho Yves Murasca and Italian stallion Rosario Galati, who have joined forces again to produce the main remix on the release as their next collaboration. A pure and groovy club smasher catering for the deeper, sleazier dance floors, without losing the summery magic of Nia’s vocals by accentuating them with smooth melodies and fluttering saw drones.

Giangi then again contributes the final rendition himself with the so called Velvet Mix, a modern chilled downbeat treatment with calming flow and sultry pads resulting in a truly mesmerising trip geared for the sunset.

With the title Kasra, a name signifying ‘king’ or ‘ruler’ in the Persian language, Sam gives a nod to his Egyptian influences, whose sonorous traits can easily be picked up on all of the three original tracks included.

The centrepiece of the release, Kasra, unfolds as a dynamic composition ridden with sonic glints, whether it’s sudden vocal chops or exotic instrument reverberations. The tribal-infused vocals give it a luscious gloss, while the uplifting synth lead pushes the tension to the breaking point.

Following in the same sensuous vein, but taking off on its own terms, Senorita grips onto a main vocal lead, whose soft howls add a nostalgic dimension to its buzzing synth backbone.

Dystopia goes beyond a sonic exploration and summons an entire realm with its integral dreamy esthetic. Rolling out nimble percussion and hazy synths, it’s an overall euphoria-inducing track filled with catchy piano loops.

Atish is responsible for the Kasra remix, providing an upbeat and more functional alternative to the original. The initial tribal vocal loop is subdued and minimized, while theatrical synths take the spotlight, ensuring a release finale on a compelling note.
