Producer, composer, and musician Dr Woe (@dr-woe) presents his newest work on Insomnius Music - "Magic Life (2023 Remix) / Voices". The artist now has a wide variety of productions in his repertoire and has already released with his second project Scary Woods (@scarywoods) on Basswerk. His current production again displays high quality, bleak, and dynamic drum & bass.

The Berlin-born artist has over two decades produced his own music, and is active as a DJ in the club scene. He has played alongside artists such as Noisia, Current Value, and Audio, as well as in the Hamburg Wutzrock Festival, in Yaam in Berlin, and in famous Hamburg clubs such as Übel & Gefährlich. Dr Woe is a graphic designer and sound technician, working in various music genres. In drum & bass, his latest release is his fifth on his own label, Insomnius Music, which he founded in 2016 together with Violet Core (@violetcore)(Bass Forward the Revolution, Therapy Sessions Hamburg). His debut release was seven years ago, and he's still not standing still.

The original of "Magic Life (2023 Remix)", which was originally released without a label, was produced by Dr Woe in 2013 and was one of his first releases. New inspiration brought him to create a remix. His sound stands for epic intros, juicy bass boards, and playful lead synthesizer. With this release a powerful sound has emerged, and warm pads and extensive brass samples herald the beginning of the title track "Magic Life (2023 Remix)", which has a definite Trueschool and Neurofunk groove, a comes along with a complex carpet of bass and techy lead synthesizers. "Voices" offers a mysterious and calming atmosphere - the perfect finish to the first track - and simultaneously impresses with new elements.

Section 63 – Voyager / Strange Thoughts

"Voyager / Strange Thoughts" is the debut on Insomnius Music from producer and DJ Section 63 (@section-63), also known as Blade from The Sect (@the_sect), and is also the first vinyl release on the label as a whole. Rolling, techy drum & bass shoots through dark galaxies - both in digital format and as a clear blue 180g vinyl, with a printed cover and a blue padded inner sleeve. Mastering through Beau Thomas (Ten Eight Seven). 

Section 63 was already hooked on breakbeat-hardcore as a child, collecting vinyls from this genre which he would later play as a DJ, and even released his own vinyls as Blade. During his studies, he worked at Tripp2 Records and played as the resident DJ at the legendary Paradox events. In the early 2000s, he formed The Sect with Virtua and Method, and released dozens of singles and EPs - making them leaders of the technoid drum & bass movement. In 2016 he released "For Love or Money" under his new alias Section 63 with Mako, two years later he turned the focus to his solo project and released "Transformation EP", among others. 

His newest release, "Voyager / Strange Thoughts" mirrors his techy and futuristic influences. "Voyager" begins with pads and vocals, moving forwards with crisp drums and a deep bassline. With this track, Section 63 was on the hunt for the sound or the sample that would bring together all of his inspiration and earn its place on NASA's Golden Record. "Strange Thoughts" comes together with a mysterious mood, consisting of driving drums, atmospheric pads, secretive vocals, and a 303 riff, culminating in a pure rave.

‘Hard Hat Area’ evokes elements from a 90s-era Akai sampler and robust drum patterns reminiscent of heavy machinery at a construction site. These components seamlessly blend in the intro with analog synthesizers in the main section. A rapid break transitions back to a dreamy sonic landscape before culminating in a gritty halftime part that acoustically captures the dust and dirt of a construction site. The second track, ‘From the Deep,’ unveils an analog sphere brimming with melodies reminiscent of the mysterious darkness of the underwater world. Accompanied by a voluminous, pulsating bass mimicking the ocean's pulse, a powerful sonic backdrop emerges, guided by a playful Erebus 3 Arpeggio and a dreamy pad. Hailing from Novi Sad, Bons is an emerging talent in the Drum and Bass world. Inspired by his brother, he discovered his passion for the genre in the early 2000s. Scary Woods (@scarywoods) is an electronic-experimental producer duo from Hamburg, consisting of Violet Core (@violetcore) and Dr Woe (@dr-woe), the two founders of Insomnius Music who focus on drum & bass.

Their debut EP Pulse reflects the different facets of their musical influences and abilities. With this fresh release, they completely open up new areas and prove that there is a limitless variety of sound.  The four tracks display the basic components of their enormous musical talent and what makes them quality artists.

This EP is a clear statement of both the label's and artists' philosophies. From deep, dark, gloomy atmospheres to heavy, forward-pushing beats and dramatic synthesizer sounds, this is definitely music for the adventurous type.

Dr Woe – Generation Addicted

 Dr Woe (@dr-woe) sets the dance floor on fire with his second EP from Insomnius Music.

After his debut, "The Insomnius," in 2016 and two strong single releases, Dr Woe strikes back with this powerful five-track banger, "Generation Addicted."

This EP captures a point in time in which our society is addicted to everything and our world is influenced by consumption.

Starting with the epic intro track, "Rita's Warriors," the Doctor uses distorted pads that lead into marching synth patterns, which he has combined with hard-punching drums and his typical future-funk lead sounds. The EP also contains Woe's playful sound design which evolves into a mystical atmosphere that carries you into rolling basslines and creatively constructed arrangements.

The deep tech style of "Hyperreality" fits in perfectly alongside the heavyweight, darkside vibe of Dr Woe's title track "Generation Addicted," a true dance floor monster. You should keep the fire extinguisher at the ready! The slowly evolving progression of "Only Once" takes your mind to a melancholic mood, but the various breakbeats fuse with a bassline that keeps your mind awake.

Dr Woe – Generation Addicted

Dr Woe (@dr-woe) sets the dance floor on fire with his second EP from Insomnius Music.

After his debut, "The Insomnius," in 2016 and two strong single releases, Dr Woe strikes back with this powerful five-track banger, "Generation Addicted."

This EP captures a point in time in which our society is addicted to everything and our world is influenced by consumption.

Starting with the epic intro track, "Rita's Warriors," the Doctor uses distorted pads that lead into marching synth patterns, which he has combined with hard-punching drums and his typical future-funk lead sounds. The EP also contains Woe's playful sound design which evolves into a mystical atmosphere that carries you into rolling basslines and creatively constructed arrangements.

The deep tech style of "Hyperreality" fits in perfectly alongside the heavyweight, darkside vibe of Dr Woe's title track "Generation Addicted," a true dance floor monster. You should keep the fire extinguisher at the ready! The slowly evolving progression of "Only Once" takes your mind to a melancholic mood, but the various breakbeats fuse with a bassline that keeps your mind awake.
