On Episode 2, Klaus shares some of the questions he asks customers before they get started. "The important part is really that the potential customer has a very clear picture of what they are trying to do and what they are trying to accomplish with their application installation. 
What kind of items do they want to track or to tag with RFID?

What kind of data are they looking to move around and what is the environment where they want to use this technology? 

Where are the read points, or even the right points? Some applications are reading only information from the attack and other applications are using the memories of the tag to alter data on the tag for lifetime tracking, for information, for service records, etc."

Who is Feig?

Debbie dug right in and shared that, "Feig Electronics is a German company based in a little town about an hour from the Frankfurt Airport. We design and manufacture RFID equipment, payment terminals. We also have a sensor group and a controller group, all done in our facilities." 

After previously being the semiconductor space, Debbie joined Feig looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to feel like she was making a difference each day.

She shared that many friends and colleagues have asked her what it was like to make a change and to start working for a company based outside of the US... she responds each time with overwhelming positivity and excitement about helping solve customers concerns with quality solutions.

Who is Feig Electronics

Sascha Brueck, Field Application Engineer of Feig Electronics, joins Identify Podcast host, Justin Starbird for the “Who is Feig?” podcast series.

Having started at Feig more than 15 years ago, Sascha has held many positions and has the experience to discuss what it is like to work for Feig Electronics here in the US, as well as home base in Germany. In the US on a five-year work program, Sascha shares his experiences related to navigating the difference between US and German cultures, work environments, and raising a family.

Sascha is known as the Feig software “wizard” on all things related to connecting RFID platforms to customer databases for use of the programs. This technical expertise has become a relied upon skill that aids the Feig team as they work with customers to solve some of the most difficult supply chain tasks.

On the latest episode of The Identify Podcast, Debbie Greenway, Executive Vice President of Feig Electronics, joins host Justin Starbird to talk about an exciting topic for her. RFID in the healthcare industry.

She states, “RFID, in general, just eliminates the need for all the highly skilled, highly trained professionals in the medical field to spend their time double-checking things, calibrating machines, and looking for things.”

Debbie takes a deep dive into all the ways RFID is being used in the healthcare industry.

Safety is an important topic. Patient identification ensures safety for all. You will always know you have the correct patient. Also, tying into safety is something they refer to as “nothing left behind.” RFID can track sponges and materials during surgery. This can ensure that sponges or other materials are not left behind in the human body before it is closed up. This is inventory and supply chain management which can also be used in other ways as well and save time and money.

Saving time for healthcare workers is important as well. RFID allows for tracking if items have been sterilized or not. It also allows for medical device calibration. Instead of doctors having to program a machine, RFID can do that for them. Often a device can only be used so many times or for so long. This all needs to be accounted for by someone. RFID can track that for healthcare workers. The same goes for blood sample tracking. 

Simply tracking who has which scrubs and when they are returned or not returned would save healthcare workers time and money. These are all things that RFID can do to help lessen the burden on the healthcare industry.

The Benefits of RFID in Healthcare with Debbie Greenway

On the latest episode of The Identify Podcast, Manuel Haertle, Senior Product Manager for FEIG Electronics, joins host Justin Starbird to talk about Automatic Vehicle Identification.

Manuel is based in Germany and has been at FEIG for 15 years. His roles have changed over the years, but now he is responsible for product management in the market of vehicle access control.

Manuel and Justin take a deep dive into AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification) and Manuel explains that long-range or wide-range identification systems work best to identify a vehicle. AVI has benefits such as convenience, reliability, and security.

Because the technology works so quickly, is reliable, and is secure, a driver could pass through a toll in the middle of a severe weather event, and all of the correct information would still be captured.


Manuel and Justin take a look at the different types of AVI technology and their pros and cons. 
The differences show when comparing camera-based systems and radar systems. Camera systems identify a number on a license plate, whereas radar systems capture an image of a vehicle. Depending on the customer's location will dictate which is better for them. For example, some areas don’t have license plates on the front of their vehicles. This won’t allow for camera capturing. RFID can capture the vehicle classification, license plate number, and vehicle image.

When asked what makes customers want to work with FEIG, Manuel says, it's our customer service. Integrating a product is the most crucial time for a customer, and FEIG doesn’t let that go unnoticed. 

He states, “The integration period is where our customers can save a lot of money, when they get the right support at the right time and when they get the right tools for their companies. We offer many software tools to implement and integrate our devices.”

Automatic Vehicle Identification with Manuel Haertle

On the latest episode of The Identify Podcast, Matt Monnat, Executive Vice President of AARFID, joins host Justin Starbird to talk about Automatic Identification.

AARFID is an automatic identification company working in the RFID market. They provide complete, fully integrated access control solutions to hotels, resorts, and gated communities, including customizable RFID tags, cards, FEIG RFID readers, and software.

As Executive Vice President, Matt’s role is to keep an eye on the ever-changing industry and identify opportunities. He then works to develop solutions and bring them to market while assisting with advertising and sales. Additionally, he works closely with resellers and clients and assists leadership with building the company as it grows. 

As Matt and Justin start discussing AARFID, it quickly becomes clear what sets them apart. AARFID is not just making a single solution; they’re working to develop the entire package for their customers. They build a solution that’s completely seamless and integrated.

AARFID works with the client to define the end goal and what they want as a customer experience or employee/resident experience. They work with technology partners and with an understanding that a key or credential is going to be the entire solution since it’s used for every point of access. They then work with the client to build the solution to achieve their goals.  

Matt says, “Integration is critical in today's market because everything has become a technology and automated. Bringing elements together and being able to be a bridge to integration is critical.”

For example, a hotel company could give guests a pass with a hotel logo giving them access to a parking lot, space, room, or any number of things to improve the overall guest experience. RFID is also a much more secure technology than others using multi-layer encryption.

AARFID chooses FEIG Electronics as a partner for hardware for multiple reasons. Matt explains, “We provide support year after year, so hardware is essential to us. We've selected FEIG as a partner for hardware because of the quality of the equipment they manufacture and how technologically advanced they are.”

The latest episode of The Identify Podcast was an exciting one. Caryn Mills, HID Global Medical Device Sales Director, joined Debbie Greenway, FEIG Executive Vice President, and host, Justin Starbird.

HID Global is a leading RFID manufacturer that prides itself on securely identifying places, people, and things. They supply all industries with standard tags or fully customized tags. As Medical Device Sales Director, Caryn manages existing customers day to day. Which are leading companies in asset tracking of medical devices, inventory management, distribution, and supply chain.

Another benefit to the partnership is the similarities in qualities that are important to them. Both companies have high expectations; their products are high quality, they have excellent technical support staff, and they provide incredible customer service. It’s easy for Debbie and Caryn to work together and recommend each other's products to customers when they’re so confident in the company, team, and solution.

Debbie and Caryn also take some time to discuss RFID in healthcare. They have seen growth recently where companies want to track their devices to ensure they’re being used properly. It’s essential to track if a device has been sterilized if they’ve been sterilized properly, or how many times they’ve been sterilized so it can be discarded if necessary. 

In healthcare, tracking is critical. They explain while working with FEIG and HID Global, a company can track their equipment and which employee was working on which lot numbers at which times. So if there's a problem, you can track it right where you need to or back to the beginning. This is much more accurate and takes away the possibility of human error.
