And immersed within it and one of its best-kept secrets, is South Netherlands-born, Belgium-raised and Amsterdam based Nicky Elisabeth, who after joining Cologne’s Kompakt label, earning a residency at @demarktkantine and winning Bumble’s first ‘Making Moves in Music’ title, can’t keep out of the spotlight for too long. After a busy end to 2019 and the announcement of her joining DGTL’s 2020 roster, and shortly before a few highly anticipated gigs with techno heavyweights such as Stephan Bodzin and Kolsch, Nicky catches her breath, and takes a moment to chat with Torture the Artist and casts an hour of carefully selected and beautifully sown tracks – a glimpse of pure, passion driven talent that has already made a mark in a local scene, but has only just began.

Derrick Vnuk is both a charismatic and emotional DJ who has earned an honorary title as one of Vancouver’s top acts. Dj’ing for over two decades, Derrick and his sound have evolved, but what has been preserved is his passion for record selecting, flawless mixing, and the music and its scene.

With a unique ability to bend genres, he explores the deeper sides of house by drawing from a plethora of musical subgenres including emotional indie dance, synth-heavy cheeky Italo disco, rhythmically heavy breakbeat, and melodic techno with a harder edge. While his credentials include 20 plus years of DJ’ing and being the co-founder of Vancouver production company ‘Leave Us Lost’, it’s his music that earns him respect.

A true storyteller who has mastered the art of communicating emotion without words, Derrick’s moody melodies, intricate bass lines, and atmospheric tracks speak for him.

Originally Davis indebted to the sound of grunge and punk, the typically rebellious aesthetic of a young life lived on a somewhat isolated island, Davis’ taste headed in a typically more electronic direction over the years, from hard house to experimental and ambient music. Whether grafting away optimistic years in bands or taking hard-earned moments away from shift work, dedicating late nights and early mornings to his home studio, Davis’ sound has always persevered with a raw, emotional quality.

The past few years have seen Davis find deserved acclaim for a string of production and remixes that put those delicate songwriting and production skills centre stage, not only combining a timeless analog touch with a keen ear for the limitless possibilities of modern production, but a powerful sense of rhythm that will both define and transcend a contemporary dancefloor.

I think it's important to make the most of every situation. Last weekend I played a 5 hour set at Village Underground, something that I have been dreaming about for a long time. 

Unfortunately, it happened to be a socially distanced, sitting event, which turned out to be a little awkward to be honest, as I found it a bit hard to connect with people not being able to dance. 

However, I gave it my best and played a bit over 3 hours of my favorite house, classic disco and indie dance music ranging from the 80s to today (followed by a couple of hours of more clubby music, which I didn't include in this file). 

I hope you enjoy and hopefully there will be more chances to play a sweaty set at VU <3
