Classic 80's track. I always liked the original, but it had several parts that were too cheesy for me (even though I really like a bit of cheese, I do), and that rendered it unplayable for me. So: edit! Sounds surprisingly contemporary, if you ask me.
Anyway, decided to share it with you all. Enjoy.

Patrice Rushen – Never Gonna Give You Up (Joey Negro Re-Grooved Mix)
I procured the multi for this killer dance cut from Patrice’s “Posh” album over 5 years ago and completed the remix a while back but we couldn’t clear it for RWL 2 due to the rights to her music being in limbo while it was sold by Warner Brothers to German indie !K7. This is one of the more radical remixes on the album. In all other cases I base the new version around the original music, sometimes adding extra riffs or replaying bass or guitar. I tried that approach on “Never…” but it just wasn’t happening. I went back to it a few times but I didn’t seem to be able to come up with anything particularly interesting so I decided to go a different direction and attempt to change the music next time I had Kaidi Tatham in the studio playing keys. He did a great job with a groove that is a little like her classic “Number One” and though the chords are different we managed to make most of the original strings and brass work with them.
