The Story Behind “You Don’t Want Me”...
The song was written around a letter penned by (singer and co-writer) Bill Curd's great grandmother, Henrietta Murray, at the end of the Civil War to her lover at the time, William Smith, a Colonel in the Union Army. He was married and had 7 children. Approximately 30 years later his wife passed away and at 72, in 1897, he married Bill's great grandmother, and they also had 7 children, one being Bill's Grandmother. The letter was written in the form of poem, called “The End of Sinning”, in which Bill still has the original paper it was written on.
