Autofreak is a dark and driving electro-techno track originally released in 2001 produced by John Selway under his Semblance Factor alias. Selway brought out this track from the archives for a remix challenge on his Techno Saturdays livestream & feedback session with Christian Smith. We picked the top three electro and top three techno remixes from the challenge submissions to feature on this release. From dark rolling hypnotic grooves to sharp edged machine funk, all six mixes make up a strong and varied collection of new takes on Selways underground classic.

We’ve brought in two key remixers to reinterpret Bailey’s vision through their own lenses: The Advent, an undisputed cornerstone of the genre, delivers a groove-laced rework that’s equal parts punch and finesse - a masterclass from a true pioneer; and Kaiser, one of the most distinctive voices in today’s generation of techno artists, strips things down and dials up the pressure with a deep, percussive take that hits with precision.

Butch’s newest offering ‘Retechno 2’ is a bass-heavy, dark, two track techno delight. The kick drums are intense, the samples interesting and the synths apparent – Butch’s quirky style of production can be heard throughout. Magnetic, holding a futurist edge with it’s spaceship sounds, cuts a deep groove with eager crescendos and heavy drops. Antimatter is packed with energy, a driving bass line and fierce drops. It’s almost as if Techno is in Mark Reeve’s DNA. With the electronic pulses flowing through through his veins as the draw of the Techno Fatherland led Mark to settle in Germany, where he has since established his reputation on labels such as Cocoon, Drumcode, Bedrock, Soma and Trapez.
