A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration. 

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint. 

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

The Drumcode A-Sides compilation is quickly becoming synonymous within the techno world as a go to compilation for the hottest tracks that are deservedly A-side material in their own right. Each specific track has it own unique character that brings an outstanding and electrifying aspect to the compilation that as a whole makes it something extremely special. Mixing both highly experienced and new artists has helped to bring a new dimension to the compilation that makes it such a special array of tracks.

The internationally renowned producer Alex Kenji boards the Great Stuff ship together with partner in crime Luca Guerrieri. In their luggage they have two massive tracks waiting to get played on a dancefloor near you. On the Amaro split EP resides their collaboration tune “Amaro”, that comes in the form of a muscular, moody and dark piano driven composition. It’s long breaks and dry drum programming give it quite a rough edge - perfectly suited for late night sets.

Track two ‘Layover’ was handcrafted by Alex Kenji and features a cutting edge tech-house feel. It nicely balances energy and vibe, while keeping things building and moving forward. Lush samples float alongside rumbling sounds and dazzling pads.

Agent Orange tells the journey of this rework

'I have had Witch Doktor on my list of songs to rework for a very long time. Armand's original holds a very special place in my heart as it was an anthem to my early days of clubbing and raving in NYC. It was probably the first track that crossed over and united my House Head and Raver friends at the time, which I found magical. Such a club classic with its air horn and wooping. To be able to rework it from the bottom up and give it a modern flair was a real honor for me and a task I did not take on lightly! I wanted to keep the integrity and vibe of the original while giving it a modern flair. The journey it's had since I finished it has been astronomic! I gave it to Carl Cox on a USB when he came to NY in June. He played it 2 weeks later at Resistance and then again the next week. Adam Beyer and Layton Giordani heard it and I got an email from Adam asking me for a copy for him to play. At this point I knew I was onto something so I sent it to 20 of my closets top DJ friends and by the end of August it was getting heavy rotation from Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, UMEK, Monika Kruse, Thomas Schumacher, Layton Giordani, Pig&Dan, Loco&Jam, Spektre, Durtysoxxx. I met Pig&Dan at ADE and we agreed that it would be a home run on their awesome label Elevate. I'm so excited for this release!

The fast-rising Irish talent lands a thrilling debut on Truesoul. 

Symptomatic of the fertile scene in his home country, Rebūke is rapidly making a mark courtesy of his patented soundclash of house, techno and rave. His Outhouse parties which run regularly in his hometown of Letterkenny, Ireland, have made an impression, hosting the likes of Alan Fitzpatrick, Mella Dee, Ejeca, Kettama and Huxley all in the last 12 months. ‘Vertigo’ is the A side on this four track EP by Roberto Capuano that uses reverberated kick drum’s and piano chords to create a groove that was designed for peak-time play. The second track, ‘Inversion’ uses rising and filtering synths with the use of space and influxes of pitched hi hats and percussion loops to create a 5am track that will keep people rooted to their spot. ‘New Chapter’ uses a repetitive percussion-like stab to keep the deep atmospheric sounds together over the industrial techno drums.The final track ‘Earth’ uses phased sporadic stabs to create an interesting groove that compliments the driving drums that are ever present.
