OCTVS: It was Jeremy (aka JPLS) who turned me onto the RAZOR plug-in from Native Instruments which, when running thru the different patches on a channel strip with some heavy side chain going on, i came across the "Broken Jetpack" sound and it was instant. It sounded like a rave siren, a call to arms sort of thing with peaks and lows. So yeah, sometimes the hook/music comes before I've worked out what I want to do with the drums or bassline. At the time I was starting to play the classic "Doppelwhipper" by Gabriel Ananda in my sets again and it had this sort of "pimp" or "bling" thing going on that I'd always loved so that helped shape my ideas about the kind of vibe and groove OCTVS should have. The reaction to the record was interesting as quite a few DJs reacted more positively to the mellower b-side, "Debris." But I like to evoke strong reactions with my music or DJ sets so I was nevertheless happy with this release and it certainly rocked the club:-)

Debris: Coming from a dub background during my early acid jazz/hip-hop days in Washington, DC, I'd always wanted to do something in that vein production-wise; something King Tubby or On-U Sound mixed with my long-time love of what Mark and Moritz from Basic Channel were doing with their Rhythm & Sound project. This is me just having fun in the studio with effects and getting outside my comfort zone a bit by doing something aimed straight at the mellower DJs and dancefloors . The feedback was far more positive than I'd imagined so guess I'll have to explore more of that territory with future singles. - Dubfire

Marco Bailey - Something I Remember (Mark Reeve Remix) [MB Elektronics]

Jorhav is back at home with the boss Sergio Bennett with an incredible track that will make you soar to the skies, the maxi is accompanied by a super remix by Mexican producer Jizz, already consolidated within the minimal / deep tech genre, a wonderful team!! On side A, the original cut, with a criminal bass line driving the entire track, some stabs playing from one side to the other, a frenetic rhythm on the drums and a sensual and super sexy vocal, To the Sky' becomes one of the best tracks from the guys. Fantastic. On side B, the remix by Jizz, less aggressive than the original, but with a very elegant vibe, on another level, the groove is great, the string in the break creates total suspense and when it breaks the dance floor it is destroyed, the stabs are also very important in the remix, they have a notable presence, good job mate. Friend! You must have this maxi in your collection without a doubt!

Alan Fitzpatrick has been sitting firmly in the driving seat with his label We Are The Brave since it launched with his club smash hit ‘We Do What We Want’ in the summer of 2016. It’s safe to say after just over two years, the label has been at the forefront of the UK’s underground scene, with a huge catalog of releases. Gary Beck, Reset Robot, Ronnie Spiteri, Sasha, Skream and Alan have all sat alongside releases from the freshest meat around including Leonardo, A.S.H and Rudosa.

Alan’s poured his passion into every aspect of the label at a formidable force, with over 8 We Are The Brave showcases this year alone, including his landmark Alan Fitzpatrick’s Day Festival back in March, and the House Party Tour for the second year in a row - he feels now, this EP marks an exciting time for him, both personally and musically.

To welcome in the 3rd year, Alan drops his biggest release yet, with his gargantuan 7 track EP titled ’11:11 The Awakening’. “The name of the EP might resonate with the spiritual people among us but put simply, it represents a significant change in my life and reminds me to focus on new beginnings and follow what I believe in” – says Alan.

Kicking off with the pulsating low end of ‘Eleven Eleven’, the release takes you on a journey of sound exploration. Deep rolling basslines as we have come to know and love from Alan, with his trademark chunky, warm synth work. 




"I'm not hugely into the traditional idea of making an album anymore but I felt like it was time to do something a bit different for my label. I sat on these tracks for a while and realised they work really well together and make a strong, statement EP. I chose to include seven tracks because I have so much music to share at the minute and it's a shame to make people wait so long for releases” – adds Alan

It’s deep, brooding and ethereal, yet tracks like ‘Dead Beat Exile’ show a side of acid and ‘Stand Up’ makes for the most experimental and heady track of the release. Finally, ‘Toasted Pitta’ closes out the release, with its warm, cerebral tone.
