After the success of the first A-sides compilation in 2012, Adam Beyer has decided its time to release another. With Adam's stature steadily growing as one of the leading talents in the Techno scene and the rise of Drumcode, the standard of demo's that have been sent to Adam have been top notch. Adam has now decided to release two compilations with 10 tracks on each, both consisting of tracks that Adam has tried and tested. There are also new artists that have been invited to release on Drumcode for this compilation and others who are a staple in Drumcode's core family. Combining both old and new talents Drumcode have come up with something unique and distinctive to make this two-part compilation something extra special.

Roberto Capuano has delivered Drumcode an immense 4 track EP that will blow out the cobwebs and see Roberto step back onto Drumcode with a bang. Lacing each track with pads and tantalising hook lines, Capuano’s tracks fire on all cylinders with good use of vocals and drum rhythms. His tracks have a certain swagger that only Roberto can conjure.

Stephan Hinz may be making his debut on Nicole Moudaber’s imprint but he’s by no means a debutant in the game. With a body of work dating back to the late 2000s featuring labels such as Watergate, Intec, Second State, Drumcode and more, it was only a matter of time before his dancefloor-tailored, mix-optimised dynamics found themselves on MOOD.

Armed with a restrained sense of funk and space, Hinz’s strong groove craft is established across three very distinct arrangements. We ignite with ‘Outreach’, a track that builds drama with relentless drums before being stripped right back for a humanised loop to flicker and falter through the rising drama. Heightened by every
strike of the succinct two-note riff, it’s guaranteed to leave the floor putty in your hands before the main breakdown.

We stride forward into the techno unknown with ‘Phantom Move’ where an ominous analogue texture takes the lead with the persistence of a foundation electro cut. Raising in velocity and sheer breadth, it teases with a bigger riff potential on every fill. Powered by a thunderdome drum set, peppered with dubby overlays, Hinz is on a real trip… And everyone is invited.

Finally we hit ‘Resonant States’. Here we find Stephan somewhere deep in warehouse mode with a dynamic that’s fat enough to justify clinical classification and a loop-driven groove that’s persistent enough to warrant an injunction. Infectious to the core and coded with the same ingredients from the sonic spice rack shared by
Berlin and Detroit, it’s a climactic closure to a pivotal chapter from Hinz. With sounds as strong as these we suspect MOOD will happily welcome him again in the near future…

Japan’s DJ Shufflemaster joins Paco Osuna’s Mindshake imprint with a muscular techno single
featuring remixes from the label founder and Gary Beck.
One of his country’s most prolific techno producers, Tatsuya Kanamori has been making music for over
two decades. Having released on labels like Tresor, Ben Sims’ Theory Recordings and BPitch Control,
2014 saw Shufflemaster launch his Shiki Kyokai label, which plays host to his own material including
his Housedust Sound System moniker.
Demonstrating a raw aesthetic from the off, ‘ReWeekender’ is a medley of organic drums, whirring
effects and saxophone samples that generate a jazz inspired swing. BEK Audio boss Gary Beck’s
remix is dance and ominous by comparison, with its catastrophic synths and rumbling low-end, making
way for Paco Osuna’s low-slung reinterpretation that combines crunchy percussion with a thunderous
energy.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell, and the new release is from Jason Fernandes. UK based Jason Fernandes returns to Intec for his third EP on the imprint, and further solidifies his position as a core member of the label's family of artists. With an impressive back catalogue, Jason Fernandes has also featured music on Hans Bouffmyhre's Sleaze, Sasha Carassi's Phobiq, and his own label Subfigure. Along with many solo productions, Jason has also collaborated with heavyweight producers such as The Advent for releases on labels such as Drumcode and H-Productions. A popular DJ playing gigs all over Europe and further afield, his tracks are often supported by other club spinners such as Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing and Slam. 

Heath kick starts the EP with a blend of spacious production, atmospheric textures, and spooky vocals. Deep and eerie, there is a compelling mood to the track which adds to its overall sense of suspense. Its tough percussion and purposeful structure are slow building, but with everything combined this is a captivating cut of dark techno. 

Royal Free is the second track and compared to the first cut it has a more up tempo groove with a warehouse party vibe. The rave influenced synths and vocal stabs are layered with snare rolls and bass drops that give the track a hands in the air energy, and implementing a subtle tech house influence to give it some genre crossover appeal.

Steve Mulder is a veteran producer who has racked up an impressive back catalogue including Unrilis, 1605, Respekt, MB Elektronics, Bush, and Odd Recordings, along with previous solo EPs on Intec.

Giovanni Carozza is an exciting young talent who still early in his career, has already featured on many high profile imprints such as Unity Records, OFF Recordings, Suara, Bitten, and Phobiq.

The pair had previously met via Giovanni Carozzas release on Bitten where Steve Mulder contributed a remix, which proved to be popular with DJs and clubbers all around the world. With the blend of the two artists styles having proved so popular, it made perfect sense for them to further this notoriety by collaborating on some original tracks, and this EP is the fruits of their labour.

Primate opens the EP with its growling lead synth that gives it a monstrous sound full of ominous tension that adds to the track's ferocity. Like a ravenous predator with a huge appetite, the menacing mood of this techno track is full of aggression, and has an intensity perfect for maximum impact when being played through a club sound system.

All about the urgency of the arpeggiated synth, Avant Garde has enthralling tension full of excitement. Its stabbing lead sound adds further magnitude to its fast and furious groove, solidified with the pounding of the kick drum. Crunching claps and vocal phrases are all a part of this captivating cut that closes off the two track release.
