‘Sighting’ is the debut single by rising UK bass artist/DJ/producer Mesmanic, and it's out now via the Beat Filter label.

Already building a strong reputation in his native south west for his energetic live sets, Mesmanic looks set to reach a wider audience with his debut release, four minutes of pulsating bass house featuring a vocal by American actor Lou Hirsch (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Superman III) as a bystander who experiences a mysterious ‘Sighting’.

Mastered by the ace team at Stardelta Mastering (DJ Zinc, Oliver Heldens, MK), ‘Sighting’ will be followed in August by a Mesmanic remix for a new EP by Brighton electro-house duo The Love Tectonic (Symbiotic Records), with a couple more still under wraps.

Following recent DJ sets at Exmouth Festival, Home Farm Festival and a headline slot at the Exeter Respect Festival Launch Party, Mesmanic is relishing a busy summer.

MALMØ’s new single ‘The Way (feat. Eivør)’ is out now.

Taken from the recently released debut album ‘We Come From The Stars’, the new single sees Danish 5-piece MALMØ teaming up with acclaimed Faroese singer-songwriter Eivør (Game of Thrones, God of War, The Last Kingdom) to share vocal duties with the band’s own Maria Malmoe. 

The video, choreographed by Laura Feline Ebbesen and filmed by Michelle Berg and Stinna Skrivergaard, reflects the tribal vibe of the track and Maria’s inspiration for writing it:

"The Way is about getting lost in the woods and finding your way through the wild. Ancient voices and tribal drums echo in the deep. You want to run and run without knowing where you’re headed. There it is, my ‘Way’, curvy and unknown but mine to follow. I leap off on the first step."

'You Don't Speak For Me' by Tribes of Europe & Barbara Stretch, released 21st June 2019 via Integrity Records across all major digital platforms and on limited edition CD.

Provoked by the way in which the public are increasingly lied to and misled, Tribes of Europe knew of Barbara’s history as vocalist with late 70’s radical feminist group Jam Today and loved her voice, so the song was begging to be written. Co-production work by Chris Taylor, bass player with anarcho-punk group Poison Girls during the early 80's, added an extra dimension to a politically-charged song with unashamedly retro-futurist pop sensibilities.

Early radio supporters of You Don't Speak For Me include Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music), Janice Long (BBC Radio Wales) and Bob Fischer (BBC Tees).

Previous singles by Fenland-based Tribes of Europe, the alter ego of multi-instrumentalist Martin Elsey, have enjoyed support on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction and a number of specialist shows online.

Barbara Stretch, a fixture in the London punk/post-punk socio-political scene of the late 70's and early 80's, was part of a group who consciously rejected the male-dominated music business of the day in favour of creating a totally female band infrastructure with their own record label (Stroppy Cow).

Of the new collaboration, Barbara says:

“I was delighted when Martin asked me to sing You Don't Speak For Me. It’s a song which, I imagine, in our present political chaos expresses how a lot of us feel."

A limited run of CDs in hand-printed packaging will feature two additional instrumental tracks – ‘Crab Marsh’ and ‘Ysma Kego (Canning Factory)’ - recorded with Cambridge found-sound artist Karsten Koehler (Second Harmonic Generation).

You Don't Speak For Me

'It’s A Lovely Day Tomorrow’ is the new single by Tribes of Europe & Barbara Stretch, released by Integrity Records across all major digital platforms (29th November 2019) and on limited edition CD (6th December 2019).

Penned by Irving Berlin in 1938, it was in fact written as a war song in response to the so-called Munich Betrayal when conflict with Hitler was avoided by allowing Germany to annex the Sudetenland region of western Czechoslovakia.

The second collaboration between Fenland-based Tribes of Europe and former feminist punk iconoclast Barbara Stretch features additional vocals by Max Taylor (MIKA, Lily Allen, Clor) and drums by Andy Gangadeen (Massive Attack, Chase & Status, Jeff Beck).

Loosely based on the version released by Vera Lynn to lift spirits during the Blitz, multi-instrumentalist Martin Elsey has put his own Tribes of Europe twist on this classic track which he feels is just as relevant today:

“What happened to the ‘lovely tomorrow’ Vera Lynn was singing about? For a while things got better – decent affordable housing, the NHS, effective vaccination campaigns, building stronger ties with Europe to help keep some peace. Then, after years of austerity, and now the Brexit fiasco, the lyric just seemed to become more and more poignant.”

It's A Lovely Day Tomorrow

Bleed Me Dry, the brand new single by Danish artist MALMØ, is out on 25th October 2019 via Integrity Records. The track and accompanying video comprise Part II of the forthcoming EP, The Inevitable End, a prediction in 4 parts – each one representing a different way of the world collapsing if we don't change our behaviour. 

With a leftfield art-pop vibe built around mesmerising Nordic throat beats, percussive electronica from co-producer Christian Tronhjem provides a dark underscore for multi-layered vocals as Maria pleads: “You can’t lose someone that you really love”.

Working closely with Kasper Vindeløv (graphic designer) and Noemi Müller (videographer) on each of the 4 parts, MALMØ are keen to add to the wider discussion of the potentially irreparable damage mankind seems intent on inflicting upon its own planet.

As the inspiration behind Bleed Me Dry, vocalist/songwriter Maria offers a chilling thought:

"We eat poison, we have troubled sleep, we breathe polluted air - children are dying in their mother's womb. What if women become unable to carry healthy babies, so the next generation is never born?

We already worship external perfection; superficiality rules over substance. So when they perish inside us we stay quiet, ashamed that we couldn’t be the perfect female with perfect reproduction. But perfect on the outside hides chaos on the inside. Extinction looms. It won't be long now … The Inevitable End."

The mystical ‘Overgrown’ was inspired by a visit to the Mayan pyramids of Guatemala, when many sites were still un-excavated and ‘overgrown’, having been reclaimed for centuries by deep forest. Mark explains:

“Our guide (whose voice features on the track) was a Shaman who told us that some of the hills we could see were actually hidden pyramids and that there remained many such undiscovered places. Using modern technology in 2018/19 it was discovered that this is in fact true and there are hundreds of unearthed Mayan sites in the region.”

Aware are Mark Lane and Tina Morrison.  Ibiza regulars since 2000, when cult label Hed Kandi was the first of many to add their tracks to chill-out and lounge compilations, Aware became a regular name alongside the likes of Röyksopp, A Man Called Adam, Bent and Zero 7 on the finest sunset albums, including releases on the iconic Café Del Mar label for whose 20th anniversary celebrations Aware played a full-band live set to a crowd 2000-strong.

The Birmingham-based duo prepare to celebrate the release of the 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition of their much-bootlegged debut album ‘Catch The Day’ which will be available digitally for the very first time on 22nd May 2020, followed by a new album in September.

Using classic pop forms to tell stories about the present, the future and, in the case of ‘Big Beat …’, the past, Tribes of Europe here surge head-long musically and lyrically into the contemporary cultural legacy of Northern Soul.  With the classic vocal of Barbara Stretch, former frontwoman of Pye Records’ soul sensations The Vernons to the fore, the Ely Fallen Angels Choir led by Max Taylor (MIKA, Lily Allen, Clor) add layers of joyous harmonies.

Tribes of Europe, the alter ego of Fenland-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Martin Elsey, are also joined by Andy Gangadeen (Massive Attack, Chase & Status, Jeff Beck) on drums, Ric Elsworth (Belle & Sebastian, Foals) on vibraphone & tambourine and Chris Taylor (Poison Girls) on co-production duties at Bluebarn Studios and the finest bass outside Motor City.

Martin describes the single as an overdue “thank you” to the rare soul scene and the people who made the music: 

“I was a young Pink Floyd fan when the Northern Soul scene hit East Anglia. Kids at school told me how their older brothers and sisters had been driving over to Peterborough, taking something called ‘Sulphate’ then staying up all night dancing. I was intrigued. Only several years later when I got along to a few all-nighters did I really start to understand …”

Let The Big Beat Save Your Southern Soul

‘Come Alive’ (29th May) is the first single from ‘A Day Out of Life’, the new album of chilled electronica by Aware which drops on 3rd July via Beat Filter/Integrity Records.

This early summer feel-good track was inspired by walks along Ibiza’s Sunset Strip, catching snippets of nightlife from each passing bar. One of Aware’s more up-tempo tracks, cheerful marimba and piano layered on latin percussion form a base for a vocal hinting at the sense of euphoria promised by the long hot night ahead.

Ibiza regulars for many years, Aware sit alongside Royksopp, A Man Called Adam, Bent and Zero 7 on the finest sunset, chill-out & lounge albums, including releases on the iconic Café Del Mar label for whose 20th anniversary celebrations Aware played a full-band live set to a crowd 2000-strong.  

In addition to their own releases and composing for film & TV, Aware curated the very first album in the series of compilations for the now famous Hostal La Torre where they’ve enjoyed extensive stays and DJ’d sunset sets in the hills above San Antonio.

Integrity Records was founded in 1994 in a small office in Bedford, England. After early releases from Cambridge indie-boys The Traceys, the label became notable for signing bands such as Miss Black America, Plutonik and Million Dead, whose vocalist Frank Turner went on to forge a successful solo career.

John Peel was a great supporter of the label and played the vast majority of their releases on his BBC Radio 1 show. In 2002, 5 Integrity releases (including B-sides) proudly appeared in Peel’s annual Festive Fifty.

In recent years, Integrity has also been the UK home for American artists such as ex-Babes In Toyland Kat Bjelland's Katastrophy Wife, Nashville-based duo Travis+Julie and former Low Anthem guitarist Daniel Lefkowitz's new band Futur Primitif, together with Australian all-girl scrunge-rock trio Valentiine and their Melbourne underground buddies Mannequin Death Squad; the most recent additions to the Integrity family being Danish dream-folkers MALMØ and Ida Wenøe, and Greenlander Simon Lynge.

The label's long-term ethos of discovering and supporting home-grown talent also remains strong, with album and EP releases from the likes of Pet Dog Storm, Miniature Dinosaurs, theLights, Horse Party, Silhouettes and Ghosts of Social Networks in their catalogue.
