For our 17th edition of our 'Under The Influence' guest mix series we welcome Costa Rican DJ 'Okami-Boi'.

Okami-Boi, also known as Steven Meza, began his career as a DJ four years ago and played a significant role in introducing Techno music to Costa Rica.

His music is known for its fast beats and diverse genres like Hard Techno, Neo Rave, and Trance, infused with high energy and influences from pop culture.

As a founder of the PARADØX label, Okami-Boi aims to promote the Techno scene in Costa Rica by creating spaces where people can truly experience the power of hard Techno. He also often collaborates with local collectives as a guest artist.

Okami-Boi has shared the stage with notable artists such as: Veronique, Scale 9, Dostroic and Istina.

Welcoming Coashark as the 20th guest on the inTension Podcast!

“Hard Techno? In Costa Rica? And played by a shark? You have to be kidding me” common phrases and questions in the premature Costa Rican electronic scene for something that was being born. The main question: Who was going to bet on Hard Techno in Costa Rica? A Coashark did, bet and hit.

Jeason Melendez AKA Coashark, the excellence DJ of many, is one of the first representatives and pioneers of the techno scene in Costa Rica, of that music that to untrained ears is only speed but for Coashark these psychedelic and hard sounds are just a playground.

In 2019, after a constant career as a DJ and event promoter, Coashark began his Professional DJ training at the Costa Rican DJLab academy, successfully completing it in 2021.
The demand and professionalism in each of its events has positioned the Costa Rican Hard Techno scene as an undisputed stop for international DJs who want to perform in Central American lands.

As founder of PARADØX, a techno collective formed by RSX17, Okami Boi, KCS and Apicem. They have managed to create a loyal Costa Rican culture willing to give all their encouragement at each of the events. Artists of the stature of Dostroic, Scale 9 and Istina have participated in what the PARADØX collective is capable of achieving. And it is not an exaggeration to say that his work has not gone unnoticed by the eyes of the national electronic lens. His contributions to the hard techno scene in the country have been such that other emerging groups have requested the presence of Coashark in their lineups to guarantee an indisputable seal of quality on the night. His contributions have even crossed borders, leading him to participate in events held outside of Costa Rica. Together with the Vollmond and Technocturm collectives, Coashark has performed in Bucaramanga, Colombia, demonstrating that Costa Rican hard techno is latent and unafraid of future challenges.

Today, more than a year after his first event as a promoter, he is still thanked and credited with planning the visit of Veronique, a member of one of the most influential global hard techno labels today (The Meaning of Rave ). Marking a milestone in how the future horizons of national hard techno should aspire to become.

Currently Coashark is constantly working to innovate and enrich the country’s hard techno scene. And it is no less saying that in 2023 he completed his studies in music production at DJLab.

Certainly, in this country of no more than 6 million inhabitants, it is truly a feeling of pride to know that the impulse and work of creating a culture of hard techno lovers is being carried out by the right hands. The hands of the shark, the one who bet on it, the one who knew that the hard roof deserved to be implemented in Costa Rica.

SNDR and Bliviøn are two emerging Roman DJs, born in 2002 and 1999 respectively. They both became passionate about music from an early age by frequenting clubs in Rome. They are currently both resident techno mas DJs and have shared the console with artists such as Paula Temple, Snts, Pawlowski, Daniella da Silva and Fernanda Martins.
They have participated in various projects on different labels such as Rave4love, Technowereld, The Acid Mind records, M T R P L S and Divine Intervention. Their sets are influenced by hard groove sounds and vary up to hard techno/schranz, like this latest set recorded for Jaded London.
