This is a thumri set to ektaal (a 12-beat time signature) in the style of the genre called 'tappa' - a composition by Pandit Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale.

Dotara (words and music by Amit Chaudhuri) is performed here in the first international outing of Chaudhuri 'not fusion' project in Berlin in February 2006. The song's melody is based on raga Brindavani Sarang. Its opening riff, inspired by a bit of hillbilly music played on a UK TV commercial, is meant to invoke the two-stringed dotara. The musicians playing with Chaudhuri are Tajdar Junaid on guitar, Mainak Bumpy Nag Chowdhury on bass, Indrajit Dey on keyboards, and Ashok Mukherjee on tabla.

Shree in Two Keys, composed by Amit Chaudhuri, performed here in Berlin in 2006 at the Indian Embassy, in the first international performance of Chaudhuri's 'not fusion' project. The composition explores raga Shree in two keys, F and F#, moving between the two in a way that's not permissible to an Indian classical performance. Playing with Chaudhuri are Tajdar Junaid on guitar, Mainak Bumpy Nag Chowdhury on bass, Indrajit Dey on keyboards, and Ashok Mukherjee on tabla.

This recording was released by a small publishing and recording house called Lotus Print in Calcutta, run by Kanishka and Kurchi Dasgupta, in 2002. Amit Chaudhuri sings three khayal compositions in Gujri Todi, in vilambit ektaal, madhyalaya jhaptaal, and drut teentaal. All compositions are by Pandit Laxman Prasad of the Kunwar Shyam gharana.

On the tabla is Gagan Debnath; the harmonium is played by Hiranmoy Mitra.
