Not so long ago, Levon Vincent took over our Motion Room with his inimitable style. The owner of Novel Sound puts in motion a knotty two hours mix where emotions collide with minimalism. Delicates melodies, satisfying synths, the recorded set sums up pretty much the hallmark of the American artist and perfectly captures the experience of a heady night on Fuse’s second floor. Ahead of Amniote Editions’ 5 year anniversary night at Bassiani on the 6th of December (cancelled due to street protests) comes a very special mix from Munich’s finest, BASHKKA. Derived from the Turkish word for ‘different’ (she has roots there), the name reflects a no f*cks given approach to sound and culture that draws people toward her like moth to flame. From formative days in New York City where she started taking inspiration from its wealth of queer histories, she carved an insubordinate sound that’s crossed the Atlantic and set up shop in her native Germany, where her liberating tunes have found common cause with such venues as Blitz Club, Panorama Bar and Amsterdam’s Raum just a hop and a skip across the border. The aim is to reclaim spaces, assert the existence of marginalised groups (SWANA people like herself for one), amplify their narratives and create moments’ where ‘individual heartbeats merge into one motherbeat’. Further to those activist visions, her debut EP Maktub (2023) was a five-track banger and labour of love that synthesised Kurdish vocal samples with runaway beats. The reference to overlooked perspectives and elusive spark found at the intersection of culture and sound is the driving force, and something that’s felt in the gut when she plays. It’s a much needed energy in turbulent times, a reminder that you can save the world and have fun doing it. For Bassiani Podcast 242, BASHKKA brings her inimitable rhythms to the fore of the counter-cultural struggle: brazen and rave-ready, a two-hour trip to the future, slamming beats from a true icon.

Recorded live at Horoom in mid-March comes this next instalment from Copenhagen representative Martin Gilleshøj. The DJ, co-founder of KUNE music and arts festival, co-founder of Axces Recordings (and their event series), and head at vinyl dispensary Proton Records is a bulwark of the Danish scene. Alongside pals like previous Bassiani Podcast guest Kasper Marott, Søren Kinch and Popmix he’s been key to his city’s cultural offer, blending groovy dancefloor tracks irrespective of narrow genre categorisations with a focus on high-energy nighttime turnouts. It’s a witty spin on clubland fare, iconoclastic and highly danceable stuff that keeps the happy chemicals unanimously flowing. Another plate to spin: he also now runs Buttheads, an intimate club series turned into a record label for the work of selected friends. Through all these outlets, Martin unravels the common thread that binds his work together, laying open a mix of styles and developing something fresh in their coming together. For Bassiani Podcast 261 Gilleshøj flexes his DJ muscles and delivers three hours of wobbly prime time bangers. Fluid, shapeshifting and soulful rhythms, slick selecting flawlessly woven together, a gradual build that perfectly epitomises Horoom’s spirit. This is a sweaty, long haul set from the Danish polymath and clubfloor mischief-maker.

Back on June 7th, Fuse resident Innershades took over in the Motion Room through a moment that dived deep into his signature fusion of electro, acid, breakbeat, and early trance influences. Raw, eclectic, and emotionally charged, his sound nods to '90s rave culture while staying sharp and relevant throughout the journey. REC 37 is a no-frills, high-intensity recording, authentic to the floor and true to his roots.
