As our next episode we meet again an artiste from Los Angeles Interdimensional Warlock (Digital Distortions, Diffuse Reality, Control Data Institute) - is the unapologetically strange, other-worldly electro pseudonym of musical-interest-multiple-personality-disorder (MIMPD) sufferer and producer/DJ 'Scott Charles Findley' (Nordic Trax, Fiji, Iron Box, Infinite Jazz) a humanoid, with deep roots in a wide variety of hyper-dimensional dance music.

Which artists has influenced you the most? 

- I get inspiration from lots of different places, t have nothing to do with electro.. everything from jazz fusion, groovy deep house to indy rock and classical. I love all types of music, truly. In the electrosphere: Dopplereffekt, Wee DJs, Carl Finlow aka Silicon Scally, Fleck ESC, Bass Junkie, Maelstrom, to name just a few. Labels like Mechatronica, Brokntoys, Science Cult always 

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? 

- Had to take a little time away from writing recently, but Ive been busy in the studio working on new material, Im glad to say. Currently on the schedule:  A cheeky remix for the great Squaric (Diffuse Reality Records) and an EP for my friends Digital Distortions, coming out in about a month or so.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 

- One of my favorite thing about electro is that its futuristic-dystopian sound is immune to passing trends in music. Much of the earliest electro is as relevant (or more so) today as it was the moment it was made. Despite being made 30 years ago, by decidedly non-futuristic means, electro still captures that essence of 'the future' in a way thats unique to the genre.

Some standouts for me: Dopplereffekt, Wee DJs, Carl Finlow aka Silicon Scally, Fleck ESC, Bass Junkie, Maelstrom, and labels like labels like Mechatronica, Brokntoys, Science Cult, never dissapoint and have vast back-catalogs of incredible, lasting music that stands the test of time. Impossible to name them all, there are so many!

What inspires you now to create music? 

- Oh man, what doesnt.. Haha. I think, just, living, really. Joy, pain, anger, ecstasy, love, lust, desire, fear, sorrow.. Emotion, in general. Sometimes this happens in a very direct way, other times its not so clear, and Im just making something because, I think it sounds dope! In either case, The act of sitting down and creating something and getting into the sometimes elusive creative flow state is one of life's simplest pleasures, regardless of whatever compells you to enter it.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I've bounced back and forth between elaborate setups with lots of synths and outboard gear and totally minimal setups, and Ive found that almost always, less is more. Ive got only one synth, an Arturia Poly Brute, as my kind of centerpiece and sound-design workhorse, and a couple of outboard bits, but my setup is nearly entirely in-the-box and pretty bog-standard stuff. I do quite a bit of creative sampling as the foundation for my sound design, alongside tools like like Reaktor, Max MSP, Softube Modular to take me to weirder places.

As sexy as a room full of bespoke, vintage gear may be, for me, its all about efficiency and workflow, and keeping it tight takes me where I want to go faster than noodling around with expensive modular gears.. Its all a very individual and personal thing, and theres no 'right' way, if it gets whats in your head into something tangible, and DONE.

Andreas started djing in 1995, creating mix tapes and playing drum and bass in Philadelphia's underground rave scene from 1997 to 2000 under the moniker "Tygre." Inspired by the darker sounds of electro, techno and drum and bass Tygre returns from a long hiatus to share his love for the music and art of mixing. Andreas lives in San Francisco and studies computer science.
