Drum & bass stalwarts Black Sun Empire are to follow up a trio of recent EPs from The Upbeats, Neonlight and Pythius with the release of ‘Until The World Ends’ - a five-track, collaborative EP with NZ duo State Of Mind. Lead single ‘Ego’ will be released on 7th December via their genre-defining Blackout imprint, drawing an end to a prolific 2014 for the label. 

‘Ego’ immediately sets the tone for the rest of the EP, with growling bass lines and punchy synth-stabs underpining dark, techy atmospherics and vocal loops. Skittering melodics then give way to signature frenetic beats and firing drums to round off proceedings in style.

Blackout have built a reputation for curating their own brand of dark, neurofunk-inspired drum & bass over the past 12 months and this collaboration with long-term collaborators State Of Mind - who released their latest album ‘Eat The Rich’ via Blackout earlier this year - feeds into the hype already surrounding the label moving into 2015.

I grew up listening to lots of different genres of music and started partying in 1993. I started collecting vinyl in about 1997, buying mainly drum n bass and hip hop but my influences come from various sources. 

These days, I'm looking into music more deeply and with a better understanding of life, music and what it means. I have a lot of ideas and I plan to be working on more projects, including release singles and eventually an album, when I'm happy with the results. It's been interesting producing my own music but it's so nice to play other peoples music, which I draw from and of course influences my own work.

I'm still practicing my mixing skills and delving into different genres, when I have time. When I'm at home, I like listen to anything easy or alternative.

I've just been offered live studio performance at a local radio station, Phonic FM in Exeter so it'll be interesting to see what happens.
