Because of Ghosts - Only the Neon Lights

Interference is a biannual online journal in association with the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media (Gradcam).  It is an open access forum on the role of sound in cultural practices, providing a trans-disciplinary platform for the presentation of research and practice in areas such as acoustic ecology, sensory anthropology, sonic arts, musicology, technology studies and philosophy. The journal seeks to balance its content between scholarly writing, accounts of creative practice, and an active engagement with current research topics in audio culture.

Interference the journal arises out of Audio Cultures, a seminar group consisting of artists, musicians and researchers based in the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media. Established in October 2008, the seminar arose out of the recognition of a community of practitioners exploring similar issues couples with a lack of formal discussion of audio culture within the institution. As well as providing a space for the discussion of academic texts, the seminar seeks to provide broader participation through public performances, panel discussions, lecturers and exhibitions.
