What has been the biggest challenge and more positive outcome you’ve experienced through extended time at home?

Being alone with my record collection and contemplating how different I am feeling, and considering which slabs of vinyl that I want to spend more time with. Rekindling relationships with certain sonic objects that are saturated with memories and have the power to transport me to a different space.

Thank you for the recording this mix for dublab – I know its been a while since you put a mix into the ether – can you speak about your process?

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and wandered blindly into the void. This recording is a document of a moment in time, while smothered in an atmosphere that is as beautiful as it is ugly. The outcome is a true sonic image that is unmolested, unedited, and honest. An automatic drawing where one action responds to the next without any shadow of a doubt, and then preserved in its total form.

How did you approach the mix, did you have an idea in your mind of how it was going to go – or did you just trust your instinct?

Every time it is like traveling on autopilot with an empty mind that is prepared to accept the laws of chance while powered by an engine of chaos. I am a beacon rupturing from my life experiences. One light turns out, while another one flickers on. It is a very vehement ritual activity that depends on the action of call and response, while embracing the limitations that I set for myself by the tools that I choose to use. There is nothing but blind trust.

A lot of your art focuses on magic, ritual practice – but I would also say storytelling, a lot of the music in this mix, seems to spell some hidden meanings, can you go into any of those?

One of the strongest qualities of music, and all art in general is its subjective nature. Meanings can change continually through an endless scope of variables. The original intent of the artist can be transformed completely by the one that is digesting it. An important character of a successful work of art is its power to present open narratives shrouded in unlimited possibilities. And the closer and harder you look, the more questions will arise.
