She’s the giraffe-loving Korean DJ and producer who’s faced down misogyny, won over her traditional family and become one of the best-loved new stars in dance music. Welcome to the age of Gou-mania.

Anyone who's seen Peggy in action, knows that she's not a DJ who's bound by genre, style or tempo. Her sets always include an eclectic blend of house, techno, disco and acid and her mix for us is no different.

Tracks from Dorisburg, Magic Mountain High and Deniro provide menace, drive and pace in equal measures and some unreleased gold from Gou herself make this one of our favourite mixes this year.

Peggy Gou DJ Set for Mixmag

It's safe to say that Amelie Lens is techno's biggest property at the moment.
Her cover mix is a features a wide array of techno stormers, with cuts by Manni Dee, Truncate, Slam, Perc and of course her own tracks. We'll let her explain better, but trust us, this one is hard.

“The idea was to record a proper club mix, something that really defines me as a DJ. I get influenced very easily during my sets, mostly by the crowd but also by artists playing before or after me, by the time, the vibe or the club in general. This set was recorded in my home studio, with no distractions and nothing that could influence me. Just me and my music!”

Amelie Lens DJ Set for Mixmag

First and foremost, we're about dance music and the art of DJing. We aim to cover both the underground and the mainsteam, and we're far more interested in what's good than what's hip and cool this week. So our musical remit ranges from vintage funk and disco to today's most hi-octane EDM via, of course, what we call the four pillars - house, garage, techno.

The music itself is only half the story, though, so we bring you regular interviews with the people that make and play it, and cover lots of DJ and studio equipment. We'll also be carrying plenty of advice for those just starting out, and for those who want to up their game. iDJ's original strapline was "the DJ's DJ magazine" - we're determined that should still be the case.

The history
We were launched in 2000 by Future Publishing, as the successor to their short lived X-Fade magazine. iDJ became an independent title in 2001 and was published in paper form by Hedrush Media (later Create Publishing) until late 2011. We re-launched in December 2015 under new ownership. The original iDJ values remain at the forefront of all that we do. Not least because Russell Deeks - editor from 2001-2006, and associate editor until the mag's closure - is back at the helm, ably assisted by several other members of the original iDJ team.
