Following a short hiatus from the Netil Radio airwaves, DJ Winggold returns to Unbound Riddims show with an all-time great contribution to the show.

An improvised entry, the show features a bewitching brew of airy, dreamy dub techno, featherlight bass and crystalline techno. It all comes together to make a comforting massage for the ears before heading into darker, more pulsating territory in the second half.

"In the past couple of weeks I have watched a few films by Éric Rohmer. First I watched Boyfriends and Girlfriends, then The Aviator’s Wife, and most recently Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle. These three films were made between 1981 and 1987 and stylistically feel very much like a product of their time, but also timeless in the sense of how humans navigate relationships. Through these films and many of his others, Rohmer continues the ancient tradition of telling moral tales and having proverbs play out in clever and comedic ways. I loved every moment of these films and can’t wait to dive deeper into his work. These films left an impression on me and in the days after I craved music that gave me the feeling of being in his film environments. This mix includes music that holds some of the same magic and energy for me. One interesting fact about the films of Rohmer is that he seldom includes extradiegetic music. He views the inclusion of off screen music as a violation of the fourth wall. While I do love soundtracks in films I respect and appreciate his perspective on this. His focus on dialogue and the ambient sounds of the locations is more than enough, but in the aftermath made me want to linger in music of a seemingly similar time and emotion. With this mix, I daydream a bit more about his films."

Mirrors 020 - Patricia Wolf

@jwynters has been bubbling away for some time, low-key slipping out some of the most interesting techno to emanate from the UK in recent memory. Across a run of releases for @dontbeafraid he displayed a singular dexterity, sliding between tempos while holding fast to an innate language of machine funk. This is techno which sounds like it gets its cues from the original Detroit definition of the word, and the electro, disco and P-funk that came before it, but Wynters takes that sound somewhere else. You can detect a certain snarl intrinsic to the music of his hometown, a place where Sabbath, Napalm Death, Scorn, Surgeon and Regis all stalked.

The Brummie twang is but a subtle texture in Wynters’ supple sound, which has just manifested in a swirl of 130 techno and electro for @delsinrecords, the spectacular The Affect Heuristic. Off the back of that release, and his additional forays into 140 on DBA, we thought it would be fun to ask Wynters to throw down a fast paced mix, and that’s exactly what he’s delivered. Retaining the funk and keeping the energy level up throughout, it’s a selection as vibrant as his own productions. As is customary with an IO Mix, we also decided to fire some utterly inane questions in Wynters direction, attempting to understand the psychology hinted at on his releases while tackling the bigger issues in life like emails and laundry. Al Wootton is a British producer, DJ, artist and operator of the record labels TRULE and Amidah Recordings. Through his DJ sets and releases on labels such as Optimo Trax, Livity Sound and Berceuse Heroique and those on his own labels he navigates the zones between Techno, House, Dub, Disco, post-punk and psychedelic percussion workouts. He is a member of psychedelic dub - post-punk band Holy Tongue. He has collaborated with a diverse range of musicians including Moritz Von Oswald, Moin, Valentina Magaletti, Shackleton, Priori, Ben Vince, Nabihah Iqbal, and more.
