Two years after our last V/A, we're back with the first opus of our ‘Vapordub’ imprint series. Another artifact rising from the depths of the leftfield music scene, this time focused on contemporary psychedelics.
Highly inspired by the textures of the vaporwave sonic aesthetic, our 16-track compilation displays in turns intriguing sound design, graceful synths from a new age, weird exotics and psychoactive slow-dubs.

Designed to please either curious or skilled ears, our various paves the way for a 90-minute mind wandering in distant, fantasized realms. Total Annihilation Beach is the latest collection from Caveman LSD, one of the handful of monikers of Special Guest DJ / uon / sometimes just shy. Their releases under this name have always had the character of sonic transmissions – crushed sine-waves hurtling out of a wormhole, remote pirate radio bandwidths, whale-song picked up on radar, and so on. Here, the signal seems to come from a place whose remoteness is not defined by distance, but adjacency: these are alternate reality bops.

«My mix is made up of tracks reminiscent of childhood and computer games, when we would gather at someone's house and take turns playing. Where we used to catch grasshoppers in the fields, away from power lines, and instead of soccer goals there were two Sprite bottles. Where parents would scold us for being late for dinner, worrying that something had happened to us. And gum with stickers still cost 20 kopeek.

The beginning of the mix is like traveling back in time, when computers were huge boxes and everyone wore t-shirts over longsleeves. An era when everyone listened to Deftones and sent text messages with pagers. Many fundamental trends in electronic music were being born during this time, and I love exploring it because every artist sounded fresh and new, without trying to copy. Because there were no how-to guides on how to screw this or that sound, or endless tutorials. Protometal to me is a reimagining of that time, with its honest approach to research.»

This opus sounds like the soundtrack to a trashy thriller, where the emptiness is crushing, the outbursts threatening, and the cries of instinct chilling. Where ambient meets metal, where meaninglessness meets punk rage, it's crunchy, suffocating, deep black bass superimposed on distorted, imploring synths. Sleep paralysis encoded in electronic poetry.

Computer Graphics is a music project of Alexey Devyanin, known professionally as Pixelord, electronic musician and digital artist celebrated for his innovative fusion of sound and visual art. His music seamlessly blends genres such as IDM, phonk, and experimental beats, creating immersive auditory experiences.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Pixelord is also recognized for his contributions to digital art and the NFT space.
