other islands (fka chapel) picks up from 2022’s empty room / with u in mind with an ep of spectral songs built for the club. Following support from the likes of object blue and AYA and guest mixes for Martha and Precious Metals, street lit / bleachless sees a shift to slower tempos, pitched between funereal dancehall and grime-inflected baile funk.

“U Don’t Kno Me” is a project that provides a good basis in understanding the roots of Gohda. All of the tracks were originally produced between 2015-2017 — the timeframe in which he first started to receive wider attention for his productions, which were noted for their blend of R’n’B, drill rap, grime, and the deconstructed club thematics that were popular during that era. Those influences are tied in with themes of melancholy, sadness, paranoia, but conversely also love, hope, and dreams. And even with some of the tracks being produced nearly 7 years ago, the project still feels like it fits in with musical movements of today.

Homesickness is an album about melancholy, anxiety, hope, dis/adaptation, the stress of forced emigration, which happened in the life of the author due to the illness of his child and, as a result, about returning to his home town.

The magical gardens of Beatriz and the misty northern forests are two distant places where sounds and objects merge into a single sound matter. What do we hear in the dark fairy-tale thickets familiar to our culture, what sounds does the forest bring to our minds? Inspired by these sources of magic, Beatriz invited 20 artists to assemble and present a unified sound landscape of the enchanted Beatriz Gardens.

In a world where everyday routine and evanescence often drown out our inner desire for reflection and sublimity, Beatriz decided to go in search of the eternal. «Enchanted» will be the first chapter of the dive into the world of questions that music asks its listener. They invite you to go on a fabulous journey through the world of experimental ambient and ethereal waves.

The compilation «Garden of Beatriz: Enchanted» was born a year ago, in the wake of our camp at the Signal Festival 2022. The compilation is scheduled to premiere on July 21st. The release will be available on all platforms.

Over the Horizon

Knives are proud to present the debut release from Belgian artist Obsequies, entitled Organn. 

At its core, Organn is a record about love and duality. Taking inspiration from Isidore-Lucien Ducasse's poem 'Les Chants de Maldoror', the record is antagonistic yet often drops its temper to reveal blistered beauty within the fray. Such are the condradictory elements within the compositions themselves: widescreen claustrophobia; glimmering sludge; piercing VHS ambience.

Visuals come courtesy of French mixed-media artist, Thomas Hauser. Hauser's imagery similarly evokes retrograde surrealism and further insists on a narrative at work here, with obscured characters playing out alongside mantric piano, filmic vox and hyperspeed jungle.
