Wah Wah 45s are proud to present a brand new project where label boss, esteemed producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, AdamScrimshire, is let loose to remix "Cages" - the critically acclaimed LP released last year by southern soul boysThe Milk.

This full set of reworks from the South London based sonic chameleon is set to build on heavy radio support from Huey Morgan, Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Radcliffe & Maconie and Cerys Matthews on BBC 6Music, The Selector, Radio X, BBC Radio London, and beyond, to add to mainstream and specialist press props for both The Milk and Scrimshire's original work.

From the introspective downtempo revisions of "Broken Sky", "The Great Sorrow" and "Cages"; the latin / jazz flavoured take of "Never Come Down"; dance floor friendly reworkings of "Colours" and "Feels So Good"; to the out-there versions of "Knock Me Out For Ten" and "Wild Chained Man" the producer took a lot of pleasure in having the opportunity to demonstrate his full range as a remixer on such rich and soulful source material.



'Having heard the songs come together in the studio, it was really interesting to get a bit more time to pull apart the tracks for the whole album and understand its building blocks a bit better. The journey of remixing a whole album is a new one on me. It started just after finishing my album Believers Vol. 1 and it opened up a lot of ideas and new ways of thinking about what a remix should be. I went into a lot of different places with these versions and I just hope people enjoy the new spaces I put these songs in.'Adam Scrimshire

Having cut his teeth with three much loved albums right here on Wah Wah 45s, Scrimshire released his first album on Albert's Favourites in 2019. The LP, "Listeners", featured collabs with the likes ofEmma-Jean Thackray, James Alexander BrightandGeorgia Anne Muldrow, and gained plaudits includingBBC 6Music Album of the Day. The 2020 follow up "Believers Vol.1" featured, amongst others, latin bass worriersPenyaand UK soul royaltyOmar. He released his latest opus, "Nothing Feels Like Everything", in October this year featuring legendsCleveland WatkissandUrsula Rucker, as well as burgeoning London jazz talent like TamarCollocutorandIdris Rahman.

The Milk are four life-long friends, Ricky Nunn (vocals), Mitch Ayling (drums) Luke Ayling (bass) and Dan Le Gresley (guitar) who formed their first band when they were still at school in Essex, playing countless working men's clubs.

Since signing to Wah Wah 45s, the band released their second album "Favourite Worry", which becameone of BBC 6 Music's albums of the year, and the critically acclaimed follow up "Cages"; sold out London's Union Chapel, KOKO and Hoxton Hall; toured with theFun Lovin' Criminalsand recently got back on the road in in the summer of this year, culminating in a packed at show at London's famous Jazz Café.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cette scène ?
Parce qu'elle est en tout point admirable, visionnaire et fascinante ! Et cela pour plusieurs raisons.
Premièrement elle s'insère dans le film sans raison apparente. Elle n'ajoute rien semble-t-il. Une sorte de parenthèse, de digression pseudo philosophique.
Deux cinéastes de génie se rencontrent et se télescopent et peut-être se provoquent. L'un, Jean Luc Godart, jeune cinéaste, fait parler l'autre...
Et ce que dit J-P Melville est à tiroirs. Toute cette scène est à tiroirs !
A la première écoute on entend Melville tenir un discours misogyne. Parce qu'à la première écoute on s'attache beaucoup plus aux réponses de Melville qu'aux questions qui lui sont posées.
Second tiroir : On observe les questions qui lui sont posées.
Troisième tiroir : on découvre alors que la pertinence des réponses que donne Melville est fonction de la pertinence des questions. Plus les questions sont idiotes et plus Melville répond bêtement.
Cette scène est donc d'une modernité incroyable - Elle annonce le règne des médias et la platitude du discours médiatique, et Melville s'en sort admirablement dans le rôle que Godart lui a donné -

Brand new 12” on Wonderwheel from Italian producer DJ Khalab, previously notable for a string of buzzy solo releases on Clap!Clap!’s Black Acre Records. Khalab teams up with prolific Malian master musician and Griot singer Baba Sissoko for an exploration into deep, minimal experimental African/Electronic sounds. On the “A” side “Kumu” is a dark, glitchy four to the floor track with bubbling synths, live percussion and Baba Sissoko’s unmistakeable voice,  while German producer Harmonious Thelonious aka Stefan Schwander (Antonelli Electr., Repeat Orchestra, Rhythm Maker) stretches out the tracks inherent minimalism while tastefully beefing up the drums, adding synth flourishes and well timed drops. On the flip, “Kumu” is a more acoustic vocal and Xalam driven track with stuttering electronic growls and groans and minimal percussion. London based Ibibio Sound Machine (Soundway Records) brings the funk into the mix with keyboard stabs, guitars, and a  super catchy bassline and plenty of synthesizer explorations. 

DJ Khalab & Baba Sissoko’s debut album will be out late fall on Wonderwheel Recordings.
