My head spins. First, Jamil and Michaela laud grassroots movements like Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter for rising against a broken system. Bernie Sanders is said to have “surfed” on such movements. But then he’s blamed for wanting to rally the grassroots against the same broken system? Is it more plausible that a broken system awash will fix itself, reverse a generation worth of bad policies, without outside pressure? Oh! But Bernie had the white privilege to bring the word “socialism” back to national politics. Don’t worry: more Kshama Sawants are coming to primaries near you. Especially if the GOP implodes over Trump.

When I say "bring socialism back": that's because my political memory goes back before the Cold War, to Eugene Debs, W.E.B Du Bois, and Norman Thomas. This is for those whose historical education doesn't extend to a time prior to our lifetimes.
