Not your usual PF tribute, we make the Psychedelic sounds of early Pink Floyd.


Previously known as Dark Side Of The Room, INTERSTELLAR EMILY were formed by school friends in Rugby almost ten years ago, although the band has since suffered many key personnel changes.  After original drummer SUNIM KORIA was involved in a bizarre gardening accident, jazz sticksman RICHARD WAIN, famed for his light touch, stepped into the breach. Early gigs, including a full performance of The Wall (at Rugfest 2004) with the eponymous structure played by a white sheet with bricks drawn on it (thought to be the inspiration for Roger Waters' recent stadium-bustin’ tour of the piece - "if those pesky kids can do it, I sure as hell can" etc.) have now passed into Midlands-area legend. After lead guitarist and now international Olde English scholar OWEN ROBERSON quit in favour of arch-capitalism and, later, academic greatness, PETE SMITH joined the lineup, confusingly on bass guitar. The group's former physics teacher and Lead guitarist MASHER MAYES quit to become Head of Electronics, but he was irreplaceable. After a period of relative stability where the lineup consisted of IAIN LILL (numerous Keyboards), MIKE SMITH (Lead Guitar), PETE SMITH (Bass Guitar), JOSHUA WATSON (Lead Guitar) and RICHARD WAIN (Drums) plus a rotating cast of guest musicians (LAURA JAYNE MORAN, MARIA LASALA, JENNIFER OLIVER and TOM FITZ OF THE HUGH ROOM), co-founder WATSON left to pursue heavy metal pop success. The group vowed to carry on as a four-piece, stripping back their sound and beginning the emphasis on early Pink Floyd that would become their trademark/stumbling block or trademark stumbling block. It was around this time that the band met their Alan Parsons guru-figure, the BBC’s PHIL HUTCHINSON, prompting one of their most successful (not money-wise) periods to date. In 2011, skin-tickler WAIN (Drums) left to peruse a more lucrative and popular career in classic rock covers, PETE SMITH switched to drums, with the Bass-stool now ably occupied by ex-Sax JENNIFER OLIVER (a female!). With HUTCHINSON now taking a back seat due to lack of commercial success – he’ll return, he’s not stupid – the four now tour the Midlands’ pubs and clubs hawking out their psychedelic rock to anyone and everyone. Their mission to restore Pink Floyd’s music to its former underground glory (musically and commercially), and to shed light on a creative period in English music history (christened by me the Sixties hangover), where nobody quite knew what they were doing, but it all sounded rather wonderful anyway.

If you’re a fan of those early Pink Floyd albums PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN, A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, MORE, UMMAGUMMA, ATOM HEART MOTHER, MEDDLE, OBSCURED BY CLOUDS and DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, then you should go see them, because they are too. Some of them to a point that is less than healthy. If you don’t like them, then what are you playing at????? Go see them anyway and educate yourself.
