The mental toll of natural disasters is often overlooked. The 2015 Nepalese Earthquake not only shook the physical infrastructure of Nepal, but the psyche's of its citizens. In her project for SIT's Tibetan and Himilayan Studies Program, Ashley Reed looked at the mental health aftermath of the earthquake.

During a break in the SIT presentations, I got a chance to interview Ashley about her research process, the state of mental health taboos in Nepal, and how the physical rebuilding of the country helped some people recover from mental distress.

Everyone has a story to tell.

In this inaugural segment of Interview Everybody, I talked to Nishta. She's a brilliant young woman from Kathmandu who has been part of the U.S embassy book bus team for a year and a half. She's seen almost every corner of Nepal, from the mountains of Mustang to the plains of the Terai, and it was a pleasure to hear about her journey. We spoke about learning to love teaching, the routine of book bus work, how to run a workshop, and what her travels have meant for her.

Pranab man Singh built the U.S embassy book bus from the ground up and still supervises its efforts to bring community engagement and education to the whole of Nepal. Before becoming headmaster of the Karuna Girls School, Dr. Shankar served as a physician in many different parts of Nepal, and he has a lot of stories to tell. As a young man and a medical student, he took part in the People's Revolution of 1990 (2045 in the Nepali Callendar) Here, Dr. Shankar describes his early exposure to the Nepali democracy movement and his encounters with law enforcement as a young protester.
