A.way - Primal Instinct

Matter:4 brings into sharp focus that we've been doing this project for very nearly 5 years running now. It's so rewarding to still pick up new music, new artists and new sonics still after all this time.

As many of you know, the Matter project seeks to shine a light on the brighter, more colourful and more experimental side of the genre; while turning over stones on undiscovered new artists and experienced producers alike.

This year is no different. One of the elements this year we're particularly fond of is Falcon's 'Kosher'; an 8 minute piece of music, split into two equally spicy halves.

At In The Lab we like to release music that we find interesting, stuff we find expressive and worth sharing with the world.

With that in mind, please enjoy the offerings we've compiled this year.

Ankou - Ember (all your friends Remix)

This week we're proud to present a track that's been coming along for a very long time. The Finnish beat-crafter Everbeing has been working on some phenomenal music since his ITL debut all the way back on ITL005, and so to get this out 25 catalog entries later is a great pleasure for us.

Sierra Nova exemplifies Everbeing's musical philosophy of never crossing the same ground twice. This track deserves to be played start to Finnish (awful joke, sorry). It serves to showcase our more experimental side, which we've been championing since his last entry on our imprint with 'Take A Fall'. 

The outside the box sounds & arrangement in this, coupled with that classic vocal, landed this as an instant ITL classic.

Presenting our largest body of work to date, we bring you Antimatter:1

2022's Matter:1 VA worked to showcase the brighter and more colourful side of the genre we exist in, and so it's only right that our next project works as the direct antithesis of this - it's ephemeral opposite.

With that in mind, Antimatter:1 seeks to showcase our love for the darker side of this genre, and the most experimental and creative aspects of that which we can find.

This project takes on music coming from 6 different nations, continuing our work on finding music from all corners of the globe. We're extremely proud of how international the label has become, with music on our roster coming from 28 countries at the time of writing this.

We want to take a small aside to thank all of the people involved in this project and the other projects bubbling behind the scenes, you know who you are.

We hope you enjoy this release as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

The wait is over - Dübël's flip of Ludwig Göransson's iconic 'Can You Hear The Music' is now out and available to stream and download for free.

We've been getting a lot of messages about this track since closing out our Rampage set with it, and it was a really positive surprise seeing so much interest in a piece of music which doesn't attempt to be the loudest or the heaviest track in the room.

This flip really well encapsulates an artistic style in Drum & Bass we're very fond of - big orchestral intros with dramatic and emotive progressions, combined with sharp modern production which our label is now known for.

The next projects on our horizon are shaping up to be quite special, so now there's only one thing left to ask:

And we're back. After a brief pause during festival season, we're back on business - specifically back on our Jump Up.

HIVEMINDZ is the brain-child (geddit) of Kasger & MELURAN, bringing flavours from Hardcore & Hardstyle into the Drum & Bass realm. We're big fans of this style, and have been hearing it every so often sprinkled through the weird and wonderful music that's getting released these days.

Angels has been popping in the dance all summer and it's time to let it go - it's not often we put something out that's so abrasively grotty like this track.

Johannes Weich is a new producer from Berlin going by the moniker Ethera.

He's only been listening to drum & bass since 2019, but his skills in production have increased dramatically - likely due to his mechanical engineering background and interest in the technical side of music production.

He's made his way through the first years by cross-pollinating the musicians he looks up to and using those lessons to carve his own sound.

Our yearly instalment of the Antimatter series is here, and this year is packed with some of the most exciting new talent emerging out of the Soundcloud primordial soup. 

Opening up the release is an ITL frequent-flyer, Archaea with the talents of SamSHB and Temple in support to deliver some of the sharpest engineering on the imprint. 

Following on is a special one - Ton Dune & FLOONK featuring Kaylee is a Dutch & American trans-Atlantic collaboration which we're really excited to get out into the world. A vocal led anthem with a powerful kick in the instrumental - this one does damage. 

Another returning member of the ITL crew is next with Ethera. This Berliner has been making some serious moves in the last year, and so we welcome back with open arms to drop Usually. We love a spooky vocal - keep an eye on this talented writer.  

Insane sets & elite baguettes, LoveTheEND has taken the time out of his busy schedule of being a don to write Iced Out for the series. Ju is a great friend and with tracks like this he's keeping up the momentum of releasing great music time after time. 

The quinquennial track on this year's flagship is Black Sky from producers Osprey & It's Tricky. Osprey has been moving from strength to strength recently and It's Tricky has been on our mind a while - we felt like Black Sky encapsulates the energy that the Antimatter project tries to convey.

Dubstep's strawberry girl, Dani Demand steps into Drum & Bass for her first release in this genre. 

Hailing from Worcester (Massachusetts, not Worcestershire), Dani has made a name for herself having picked up some notable accolades; featuring on the Monstercat Rocket League soundtrack, remixing Virtual Riot and gaining support from artists such as Chime, Virtual Riot, Modestep, ill.gates, KJ Sawka and more. She performed at festivals like Bass Canyon and Lost Lands after winning the “Excision Bass Initiative” in 2022. 

We're so thankful Dani approached us to dip her toes into our world of Drum & Bass, and if Save Yourself is anything to go by we hope she sticks around. 

Please give Dani a warm welcome into the ITL family.

Dani Demand - Save Yourself

Sometimes all you need is a different perspective. 

Osprey's first solo release on our imprint is Perspectives, a grimy & glittery track with some hefty weight behind it. This is another one of those examples where we've held a track for an egregiously long time.

You'll have seen Osprey's name around, from Delta9 to ALL172THINGS and Hyperactivity, alongside running his first Osprey Invites event earlier this year... you're bound to see more of him in the future.

These Toronto-based musicians need absolutely no introduction, but have been all over the shop in recent times; from Rampage and Liquicity on the festival circuit to countless clubnights and gigs across both sides of the Atlantic. 

This month's release is a piece of music we've been waiting to put out for a long time, having unveiled it in our Hospital Podcast in mid 2024 (ouch, we've been holding this one a while..)

Charter balances a club-focused instrumental against Ana's introspective lyrics, giving us a beautifully indulgent piece fit for headphones and the dancefloor. 

Working with Tyr and Ana has been a dream come true to ourselves, between them having released on every high profile label you could name off the top of your head and having released music we adore spanning back years.
