The second track for a proposed album of dark ambient-ish drone-heavy music intended to lend itself to tasks requiring relaxed concentration, such as soldering Eurorack synth modules. This one is a slowly evolving drone piece performed entirely on the Soma Laboratory Lyra-8 Organismic Synthesizer, with a little help from the Korg NTS-1 for loads of reverb!

Ewan McKenzie's musical journey began in the late 1990s, with early demos championed by A&R mogul Peter Whitehead (Radiohead, Muse), appearing on industry unsigned compilations with the likes of Stereophonics, and attracting Interest from major record label Arista.

Prior to The McKenzie FIX, Ewan was lead singer with the Edinburgh band Emporium, gaining traction with BBC introducing  / BBC Radio Scotland, with reviews in national press. They were also awarded a grant from the Scottish Arts Council for their album 'Silver Brainwaves'.  

Following a critically acclaimed debut album 'Pandora's Box', The McKenzie FIX release new single 'The Beginning Of The End', on Platform Records. The song has a melodic introduction that’s instantly gripping. A few seconds later, the track truly takes off, hitting the listener with a dreamy soundscape that’s cinematic and atmospheric. 

This track  will appeal to fans of artists such as Tears For Fears, The Cure, and even contemporary acts such as Dead Rituals or other indie bands that capture a bit of that 80s vibe. Lyrically, the song is very relatable and current, considering the state of the world....

We recorded and gigged around the UK between 1993 and 1997.

Even though MBL provided an (often unwelcome) alternative to Brit Pop, Steve Lamacq thought we were quite good. 

This song which was written in a damp cellar in Salford in 1994, was an ever present on the band’s setlist, though it wasn’t ever recorded - until now…
