After two releases on the label, Funktional has earned himself a solid place in the roster, delivering modern liquid funk that gets classier with each release.
The A-side ‘Poison Seas’ with DRS is no doubt the emotional singularity of the project, focussing on extended song writing instead of rolling loops. When the lyrics are as chilling delivered acapella as they are in a musical context, the emotional body of this piece is unavoidable. Each instrument, swell, delay, and drone all serve their individual melodic and rhythmic functions to form a hidden chord progression that drives the semantic weight of DRS’ poetry.
