I woke up today with the germ of this idea in my head, and I spent the day developing it enough to present it here in this fledgling form. I'll see where I go with it in the coming days and weeks, but the first thing I felt about it was somehow existential.

The death of my father will always leave my world a little different, but I keep turning my eyes forward and upward as well as I can. Life is an endless river of questions and, I guess, not many answers sail it. The pursuit of truth, they say, is more important than the truth itself.

In any event, maybe the most common question most people grapple with is "Who am I?" We have a profound need for meaning and purpose. But as circumstances change, and life changes, our perspectives change. Who we are is challenged. Our purpose, if we know it to begin with, is redefined. So perhaps the real question we keep asking as we hit these difficult milestones is "Who will I be now?" I know it is for me.
